I just overhauled a 41 in a 99 caravan with a 3.3 and used a Dacco converter i got from a local trans shop. I normally use chrysler converters, but the remans have been junky and the dacco was cheaper.......so He gives me a 582Y which is smaller (9 3/4" i think), and bolts to the inner flexplate pattern. It has also apparently raised the stall speed noticeably. I really don't care for it. at times, when idling in gear, the vehicle makes no attempt to move on its own. Trans works fine otherwise, just seems to have too much stall, and I don't like it. My question is, is this normal for this converter, or is this one just junk? And if it is normal, will it have any longterm ill affects on the trans or heat build up in the trans. This minivan has a hitch and sometimes sees a 5x8 utility trailer. Thanks for the help

I've only used a few aftermkt convertors, mainly due to customer costs or Mopar backorder issues. But I have never experienced anything like that.

I personally wouldn't like it and would question Daaco on it. Something to remember, the Mopar A604 variants do not like heat. So if you keep it in there I would definitly install some kind of external cooler

you may have something else going on I use nothing but Dacco converters and I use 5-10 a week and I only had a problem with 1 in the last year.
I have also interchanged the 582y and 585 on many occasions and have never been able to tell a difference in the stall.

I wanted to update the couple guys that helped out. I called Dacco and the 582 does have a 1-200 rpm increase in stall. I am sure thats what I am feeling. I have put about 500 miles on this van just running it around, (Its a family members), and it works fine other than the stall speed. So Dacco is sending me a 585-90 to put in its place. I am going to just swap the converter, and nothing else, and see if its fixed. Hopefully I will be able to sleep again. I've done probrobly 2 hundred 604's, it doesn't surprise me that I would have trouble with my in-laws van.
