I remember this car well. I only saw it once or twice, but it made a lasting impression. It was at Ohio Valley Raceway in 1980 I believe, for the Door Slammer Nats. We were pitted next to him. The car sounded great. The wheelies had everyone talking and the track officials nervous as he carried the wheels nearly the whole 1/8th mile!
It is great to see these pictures, and to refresh my memorie of that car!
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for posting those pics....I actually got a chill when I looked at them. Thats wierd. I also remember Larry Morgan at Pacemakers with his Utica Flash Challenger. Another crowd pleaser. Anyone got any pics of that car?

These are great photos. Phil is my uncle and I went to many events as part of the support crew growing up. This car was well known wherever we went. In fact, at an event in NY, the track management asked us to make another pass after we lost because the crowd wanted to see one more of those famous wheelstands. If you have more photos, please let me know.

I would like to personally thank Phil Roar for setting up the suspension and drive train on the Warren & Augenstein 67 Hemi Belvedere. It leaves just like his old "Roar N Hemi" car (aka "old Blackie ). We have had so many people confuse our car with his. We had the car at the 2008 Hemi reunion and Joe Grippo caught the car in action, in one of his albums. Phil and his grandson stopped by our pits at the Mopar Nationals a week ago and talked Hemi with us. Again, thank you Phil for helping out on the car. Larry Augenstein / Sled City Fiberglass

He now has a 68 Hemi Dart. He will be at the Mopar meet at Clay City again this fall.

I have some history on this car as my brother Dave and I use to own it. It was indeed a RO23 original car and was purchased new by Frank Marcusic and was an original 4-speed car he raced in SS/D then he put a tunnel ram on it cut out the rear wheel wells so he run 14-32 slicks and went to AM/P class, after that he sold the car and Dave Miller bought it,fixed the rear quarters put an automatic in it and ran SS/DA with it,then when he quit racing it the was bought by Sam Brooks who I was very good friends with, my brother Dave and I traded an original 63 Max Wedge Savoy for the 67 to Sam, we never raced it and eventually traded it back to Sam for another car, yes this car was originally white and it used to sit at the Sinclair/Arco station at Oakland Park & Indianola that my dad use to own and us brothers all worked there, there were always a lot of bad Mopars there besides our own.
This is just my worth.

looks like the rear housing was moved forward at least an inch and a half. Just my take on the launch. :

Phil Roar is my uncle and is healthy and living in Kentucky. And he is happy that you all remember him so fondly. Thank you all for the posts and pics, I personally love seeing them. Thanks again, Jamie

We did a complete article on it and the history of the RO/WO cars, with photo and the original bill of sale, in the Fall 1987 issue of Classic Chrysler Quarterly magazine. I'm sure I have a few mint copies left if anyone is interested.

We have a ex-Pro/Stock Duster that was bought out of Ohio that was possibaly black and white and was monikered "Hemi Thunder" or something like that and was supposedly driven by Phil Roar. Can any shed some light on this car? Any info would be appreciated.

Doesn't ring any bells but there were many cars that came and went back then all over the country. If you had a picture that showed some resemblence to the original paint it would help.
