111 mph is enough to tap high 11's with good hook and 60 times. Ron

my 60' time was 1.87 Thats about what i was doing going mid 13, maybe i did some spinning running on old slicks too might have to buy new ones. I did have 14 lbs in them same as the old 440, should I have gone with less?

Today im going to see if all my hard work and money is going to payoff, I dropped a 500 stroker in my 68 Satellite and going racing tonight to see how it goes, with my old 440 it ran a best of 13.22 102mph, nothing has changed but the new motor, anyone care to guess what i'll run, old 440 about 380 horses, new 500 suppose to be around 550. kinda nervous and excited at the same time

At that mph, you may not be making 550 HP, as trap speed is the indicator of horse power. You still could break into the 11s, imho.

In my experience a 9" tire was not enough, i would try to get a 10" tire under there and, also, be sure your convertor is right for that combo.

You will need to change a lot of things in the drive train and rear suspension if you start hitting the rear tires with that 500" spinning at 4,500 off the line.

What does your combo weigh?

Do you have the tranny, drivshaft and joints, and diff that can handle that torque with sticky tires? I don't mean to be pessimistic, but I've been there, done that. Your 111mph shows the potential, while the 12.5 and overheat is an indication of some of the difficulties that lie ahead.

Master, again and still

I dont think that a ton more converter would be what you need its just that when you put alot more torque to converters sometimes they get real ineffecient and do weird things. You said it kinda hooked, did you look at what it flashed to on launch?? It could be slipping and leaving alot on the table

Thanks for all the advice and info, if I break in the 11's I will post it. I have a list of things to do. Once all the snow melts away here in Dallas, isnt it suppose to be spring now?

Did I miss it... .... what cam are you running?
I would say once tuned and you get used to the car's new setup I am willing to bet you will drop below 12.00s....

If you bring the car up to a certain RPM say 1200 on the brake before you launch what does it rev to when you flat pedal it to take off? You said it was a 2400 stall is that what you rev it to against the brakes on launch?

well there are alot of factors we need to know to see what you should run. My mild 440 in a 74cuda with stock susp run 11.50's @116-117mph. I run a 1.55-1.58 60ft. 3500 stall 3.91 gears. Your cam should get you in 11's. What heads, Int, carb, gears, fuel system, tires are you runnin? Something not right here? Maybe starving for fuel?Like was said maybe not 550hp. Timing should be at least 36 degrees all in by 2000 rpm. My opinion. Good luck!

Well your giving up at least .4 in the 60 foot at least and that is just there. any improvment in the 60 foot is usually X 2 in the quarter. so if you go 1.65 short times 1.87 - 1.65 = .22 X 2 = .44
1.65's would still be poor for your car by the way.
so a 4000 stall, 38 deg total, bring up the shift points, work on rthe cooling a set of caltracs and mono springs good slicks and 11.5's with no problems
Probably more as you work it all out1

get it from wes with hes 90/10 front shocks

Timed by ear? Presently, you are somewhat short of 550 HP but with some expert tuning you may find it. My 530 HP 440 3400# Dart went 10.90's at 124.

Well I have figured out the cooling, I had no thermastat or a water restrictor, Fixed that with a old thermastat removed the center and drilled a few holes around the base. I will work on timing next with a light!

dont waste any money on running high octane fuel, get somthing middle grade at the pump, your middle and high grades at the pump are usually a cleaner fuel than lowest grade. only diff. but for power, not a thing
