Small block in a 65 dart with a small pilot hole, I just picked a newer slip yoke 904 and the snout on the converter is larger than the pilot hole...It seems like my two options are get a converter built with the small snout and with the correct splines on the other side...or change the pump & shaft with the old style in the newer trans if its possible?...just wondering what would be correct way the least troublesome and the least expense.
Thanks

There is a third way, a later crankshaft.

Other than that, those are your options

Don't be the exception.

I'll defer to Kunkel for the final word on this but I believe that the later (larger) input shaft (reaction shaft maybe larger too?) required the larger TC "nose" so if that is correct then that'd leave one option left, if the earlier input and or reaction shaft(s)/pump will fit in the later trans or as said swap cranks which I dont think you want to do.

Ya I wasn't sure if you could swap out the shafts or if it would be to costly...looks like a new converter is in my future....Don't ya just love these old mopars.

yes I get edumacated here every day. I'd sure think swapping the input/reaction shafts/pump and tc from an earlier trans to your later trans would be the easiest/cheapest and even if the later larger input/reaction shaft setup will fit inside the (smaller) nose of a custom TC and I am not sure it will but Kunkel will know in a second, a custom TC is going to be pricey. Plus if the early stuff would fit then probably the input/reaction shafts/pump from an early /6 would work in your V8 trans would would make it easier for you to solve this. then you can move on to the next problem

Continental used to make a large spline/small snout stock stall converter for around $200. A few guys on the Slant board had them made.
