60 views and no replies. I'll stick my foot in my mouth.
I want to say it's the last two digits of the entire engine assembly part number. Not to be confused with the engine code as seen on the fender tag.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct if necessary.
I can't afford this.

I am interested as well. I have an original 70 440HP motor. It has a number on each valve cover in front. However, they are not the same #. Was this an inspection #?

The passenger's side numbers on this A12 are the last three digits of the engine part number for a 440 - 6bbl -2946950 with an automatic transmission.
2946949 in the engine part number for a 440 - 6bbl engine for a manual transmission.
