I'm thinkin' this could be fun if we do it right!
Here's the tire we'll be running without much problem {I hope}
I've owned this one for a long long time and finally getting the time to bolt on a set of slicks and some other things to do sum drag racing.
340 727 3.91's spool drive line loop stage 2 shift kit.
hum?
what else?
rev limiter
some pump gas with a splash of 110.
with only 67k on the clock I'm not planning on doing much to the engine to begin with, leak down compression test change the oils and check everything out. album here

That car reminds me of my 69 GTS 340 I had back
in the late 90's. I ran a 235/60/15 Drag
radial and ran low 8's 1/8 mile. Car was bone stock except for a few bolt on's.
We will see you at the track?

Looking good! What size are your new tires? The TTI's are the best!

The 255/60/15 MT fit on my 70 Dart. I'm going to trim the wheel lip a little . W/O trimming the tire has 3/8" clearance. The spring side is fine.

It's hard to believe but this 8 3/4 rear axle has NEVER been apart! I had to remove the push lock washers from the axle bearing retainers before removing the axles The bearings were in desperate need of grease and the OEM U-joints are just about ready to go. I've been looking forward to working on my Dart for years, this is fun.

The 391's going in and the adjustable pinion snubber installed. This type snubber is different than the one's I've installed in the past, it screws up and down rather than using a pin.

We found the aftermarket axles are a little to long {better than to short}
Guess I will have to ship them back to Dutchman unless I can find someone local to cut them down.
has anyone ever shortened axles?
use a cut off wheel in a chop saw to cut axles?
grind the bevel and touch up the splines?
thinking out loud. is anyone listening?

I would like to avoid shipping them back if I can.

Sure hope the off set is correct for the brakes I'll check that out today.

thanks for taking a look.

Rod, I have had to shorten my 35 spline axles twice, once when I shorten the 8 3/4 and again when I put them in the Dana 60 that is in the car now. I had the Dana shortened one inch more than the old 8 3/4. I used a metal cut off wheel on a chop saw like they have at a muffler shop or a welders shop, beveled it lightly on the cut off wheel after the cutting

here's an update on the 69 Dart
trying like heck to get her back together before knee surgery next week.
I called in reinforcements to lend a hand this weekend.
I did a little more testing on the dyno to find the Holley mechanical fuel pump doesn't do the job.
it did make about as much HP but during the sweep lost all pressure. We will install an electric pump instead.
Thanks for taking a look.

Has it been that long?
seems pages are missing from this thread?
hopefully I'll post the finished project this weekend.
I painted the engine compartment before the engine went back in but the rest of the paint work will have to come next year.
the dyno test results are here
I thought I posted them?
This project is a good distraction from my up coming surgery for total knee replacement. That's going to slow me down more that usual.
Thanks for taking a look.

The '69 made a few passes down the 1/8 mile before we decided not to go any further until a new valve body and reverse pattern shifter is install. The car ran a couple 8.40's at part throttle since the transmission wasn't shifting properly.
Nothing to write home about but we aren't finished.
It was a successful day for us with the Dart, it launches hard, stops OK with the drum breaks and sounds good.
I was trying to keep the Dart as OEM as possible but to make the car more user friendly for the "big guy" we are going to also install a single seat and a good set of belts for safety.
