Hello fellow Mopar friends! My name is Roy(23) and I am in the process of getting my 68 Charger all freshened up. My car is an original 318 and I just recently purchased a 440 witch was rebuilt.(possible standard bore and compression) well the previous owner said that the guy who had it may have put a cam in it but I don't know. I bought the engine COMPLETE came with eddy 1411 750 and eddy performer 440 non RPM.
block numbers are 4006630-440-10, the heads are 516's and have less than 100 miles on a fresh rebuilt, but I will not be using these heads i have purchased some (0 miles) 906's(2843906) with the following modifications: Ports and pockets ported out full length, multi angle valve job blended stock 2.08 intake and ex 1.74 valves reground hard seat, seals replaced, new hp springs good to .575 lift, 130 psi seat press 330 at .500, lift deck milled .020 open chamber 82 cc.
Now I want a cam that will take advantage of the heads at that max lift, I have a rebuilt 727(3k converter), car will have 3.55 gears in the 8 3/4. as for carburetor, I will be going with the new FAST EZ EFI KIT i was thinking of going with a Edelbrock Torker II.
Thanks guys, I would appreciate the help! =)

I'd go eddie RPM, and comp XE275HL for a cam I think....
if you're willing to spend the money for the FAST system, I'd consider maybe dropping to an eddie 800 thunder series carb and spend the $$ on a retrofit hydraulic roller cam setup...

When you yank the heads, measure how far down in the hole the pistons are. Either report back with that info, or figure your compression yourself. Your calculated compression or lack thereof, will determine cam selection. Id verify that the 906s are 82CC, that seems a little small with a stock valve, and only a .020 cut. Do you have flow sheets on the heads? You say you want to maximize the cam at .575 lift. Unless the heads were done by somebody who knows what they are doing most likely they wont flow much more air at .575 vs. .500. No need to go with more lift if you dont need it. Id have em flowed and see what the flow curves look like. A Torker II would be my last choice, as mentioned either a RPM or Street Dominator. Id also skip the EFI. As mentioned a 750-800 DP. With the money you saved from not going EFI, get a good AFR meter and get the tune on. FWIW, a few years back I had a basic street 440 with stock converter, 3.23s in a 3800 lb car. I had a CH4B on it, went to a M1 and picked up 3 MPH. I also had a Erson 228/.476 cam in it and for such a mild cam it ran pretty decent.
72 RR, Pump gas 440, 452s, 3800 lbs, Corked, ET Radials,. 11.33@117.72.
Same car, bone stock 346s, 9.5 comp, baby solid. 12.24@110.

Hey guys, thanks very much for the much needed info, bare with me I am learning as we go. I was thinking about ditching the EFI and I think I will, I will get a nice DP BG or Holley when I decide what combo I will be going. Now I have another dilemma.. I keep on hearing that my block is crap and has crap compression compared to the older 440's but then again I see on here that even the older 440's are low in compression and just look better on paper? what do ya'll say about that? So now I am worried that I may have very low compression and will not be able to take advantage of the heads and cam combo you guys are trying to set me up with, they told me to go an measure on how deep the pistons are in the hole to give me an Idea on what CR it has..but yet I have no clue on how to do that.. some good direction on how to do that would be appreciated.. Another thing the previous owner said it was rebuilt, if indeed i have super low compression, can I just buy a new set of forged pistons and rods and just bolt em up to help me raise compression to make great power and still use 91 pump gas? without need of taking to machine shop..I have buddies that can help me with piston/rod installation and are knowledgeable,, motor was running 1 year ago and maybe has few thousand miles on rebuilt.., btw I hand crank the motor with no plugs and it spins smooth but takes some force, motor has oil.. Thanks all, Roy Oh the new 906 head will have hardened seats.

You're too young to have a '68 Charger You should hand it over to me If the pistons and rods look good then I'd just deck the block to get your compression where you want it. Don't forget to pick a head gasket first. Love those cars, sounds like everyone's got you covered Good Luck

Yeah, when I tell people that I have a 68 Charger they really get surprised..especially older Mopar guys!
As for the heads the 82cc is that is claimed..he is actually shipping them to me on Tuesday because he is installing harden seat. I will flow bench them when I receive them.
Any of yah have a saying on my last post #5800653?
thanks, Roy.
Good deal. Ron

Just out of curiosity if you have already paid for the set of 906 heads did you end up spending more on them than a set of aluminum Edelbrock RPM's?
