I just purchased a distributor on ebay item #230422363671 for my 70 Dodge challenger 440 4 barrel 4spd. After getting it I realized it might be incorrect. The red anodized tag reads the 3438222 which is correct but the date is 6 9 which in my mind is for a 69 build and the vacuum advance part # is 2642262. Does anyone know if this is correct or can I use the distributor and change the advance and put a repro date correct tag on it? I would even consider purchasing a correct one if there is one available.

IIRC, a 440 4-speed in '70 should have had the Prestolite dual-point distributor. That's a Prestolite vacuum advance pod, but the distributor itself is a Chrysler version. After reading his ad and him claiming it's even for a v-code, that's absolutely wrong. Again, the iron Prestolite dual-point is for a '70 v-code and 4-speed u-code. The automatic u-codes would come with the Chrysler single-point and the v-code autos, again, would come with the Prestolite.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I know for a fact a 440 4speed car in '69 would have the dual point.

Based on the info I have in my books all 440 4 barrels will have a single point distributor regardless of the tranny type. He had told me the vacuum advance changed mid year and went to an electronic one. Do not know if this is correct.

440 6pk dual both.
6/9 date code is June,a little early but possible.
These are both are 70 6pk,early on right,late on left.
Also,Troy if that is a picture of a 69 engine,it has the wrong vacuum advance.

That should be a '70-1 440 since it has the 1/2" and 5/8" heater hose fittings. '69 would be 5/8"- 5/8"
I woild suspect that is a Hemi as to the fuel line tee,where the coil is mounted and the bracket's.

It's a hemi. I was trying to convey the Prestolite body versus the Chrysler.
Nice to know I'm still learning. So, '70 would have been single point as well for a 440 auto or 4-speed.  My experiences with '70 models on both my '70 Chargers R/T were v-codes and '69 440 speeds, hence my bias towards dual-breaker distributor application and my false assumption the '70 model year would have followed suit for the 440 4-speed cars.
But, would the '70 distributor pictured in the original guestion have the Prestolite-style advance or the more traditional Chrysler?

I have owned several of the 3438222 distributors over the years and they all had the electronic retard canister like this 222 dizzy in a '70 u-code New Yorker.

Can I use the distributor I have and change the vacuum and will it then be 100% correct looking or should I buy another one. If buying one is the better option does anyone know where I can get it.

Actually,with the distributor you show I don't know how they got the vacuum advance connected.That is a Prestolite advance,it has a arm with a hole that mounts to a pin on the breaker plate,the distributor you show is a Chrysler unit which is just the opposite,the stud on the arm goes in a hole on the breaker plate.You can use the distributor you have with the above vacuum unit I posted as long as it has the correct breaker plate.I'd like to see a picture of that plate.

I just installed a single-breaker in my 440 auto Daytona and it works fine... I wanted the motor to be more correct.
