I am putting a A-500 overdrive tranny in my 69 Cuda , I need to know how to wire the over drive so it will work. Can anybody help me? there is only three wires on the tail shaft that operates the O/D. Thanks Leo .

Go to Performance Transmission web site. Everything you wanted to know and more. Also parts to do lock up and overdrive automatically based on engine vacuum.

Thank you for the info. I suppose that the A-500 (aka 904)hook ups are the same as the A-518 (aka 727)? My tranny is out of a 91 dakota, and it has the 904 pan.

I have found it very useful to separate OD and lockup in my a-500. I have 1 switch that kills both and a second switch that will allow OD but not lockup. I have the vac. switch for kickdown as well as the adjustable pressure switches on the tranny to set the upshift speeds. IMO all of that is required to tune it to your vehicles needs and your tastes. I have 3.91's and 28" tires, I have it set to hit OD about 45mph and lockup at 55, those I very often keep lockup turned off unless I'm on the interstate. Even with 3.91's it tends to bog a bit, if I had 4.10's or def. 4.30/56's I'd let it sit up in lockup all the time (or if I had short tires)

Thank you furious70. This all sounds like a big hassle. I think I am just going to go with a 904 lock-up trans. out of 85'Diplomat that I also have in stock. I am running 3:23 gear and 27 inch tall tires and a stock 5.2 motor from the Dakota, I should be ok on fuel economy .

hassle? Not really, the OD just needs tuning like a new carb or anything else. I'm very happy with mine - off the line like a 4.30 gear with the low 1/2 set and down the road at 2.68 + lockup. It's both a performance and economy upgrade in 1 tidy package.
Mine was done by Tranztech in Dubuque, Ia, quite reasonably for a turn key job.
