A co-worker has an '05 Hemi Ram that's idle is jumpy and sometimes stalls (dies). There aren't any fault codes in the computer for the dealer to help diagnose. One dealer did replace the throttle body which helped the stalling but it still has a jumpy idle.
Anyone hear of this problem?

EGR valve maybe. They are a bit of a problem on the Hemi's, although you usually get a fault code. They are pretty cheap and easy to install. Ask me how I know.

OK, how do you know?
I hadn't thought of an EGR valve, but without an error code he would just be taking a chance?
Thanks,
Dave

This may sound stupid to you but its happened to me on more than one occasion. Check the battery! Low voltage will make these newer model Dodges act very Crazy! I had a truck doing almost that same thing. Changed the battery and it went away. It may not work for your friend but its worth a try....

That's an interesting suggestion. Most of his problems are right after starting it. Drops it in gear and may make it to the edge of the parking lot or want to die right away. This is something else for him to check in to.
Thanks.

We have a spare EGR valve to try, he can't find where it is on the truck. Anyone know where to find it?

try cleaning the Idle air controller. On my truck when it starts stalling and has bad idle I clean that sensor with brake cleaner and problem goes away. do not push on the punger I just remove the valve and spray the cleaner on and let the carbon drip off.

not a dodge, but my 01 chevy truck did this exact thing and it was the throttle position sensor. I dident even buy a new one I just sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in the connectors and it stopped it.

It's on the front of the passenger side head. Get the battery out of the way and you should be able to see it.

Well, I went out at lunchtime and looked at the '05 Ram in question. The battery is on the drivers side. The front of the passenger head has a two bolt blockoff plate. I'm very confused now. This is a 3/4 ton.

That is going to be a interesting trick...Since the battery is on the Driver side AND....a `05 2500 5.7 dosen`t have a EGR valve

Or for that matter a IAC either

Does it have a steady miss at all as normally it would set a code if it did but if the battery has been disconnected or real low it may have lost the crank sensor addaptive counter and until it relearns it the missfire counter wont count or set a code. I dont think its the IAC (idle air control) motor as you have to remember the IAC is a stepper motor on your truck and if it is changing the idle then that means the PCM is working the IAC and that means something is telling the PCM to work the IAC. The IAC alone wont change the idle untill the PCM tells it to. A bad TPS will cause it as the PCM will think you step on the gas and the TPS volts will change so the PCM will flare the idle to componsate. Could also be leaking EGR valve. Do you have a scanner you can put on it ? Ron
