Along the same lines, whats the deal with the plastic pins? There are low end ones and more correct ones. Why 2 different kinds? Big price diff?

Bump, any more pics of this? How many pins in the big piece on the right vs. the small one on left?

Thanks in advance.

How important is this insulation? There is insulation in my car now but it's kind of ratty. Would this really make a difference?

Hey guys, I just saw this thread was resurrected...There must be more than one company making those insulation nails over the years..The cheaper repops have all kinds of problems ranging from the wrong head/contour not allowing them through the firewall without a battle to being made from plastic that's too soft and not doing their job at all...I've sometimes resorted to scouring the boneyards for good originals if need be... So do your homework and ask the right questions if your buying new ones{including legnth compared to your originals}... ...Think about why it's all there...Sound deadening and heat/moisture transfer...The upper cowl insulation is glued on there so the cold/hot is'nt transfered into the seating compartment.... And back when they actually got drove in the rain it would keep the wiper transmission linkage and running water noise down....The firewall insulation{2 nails around the e-brake,7 or 8 on the big piece} did the same job but it also ended up acting as a spacer between the heaterbox and the wall itself... .. One set of insulation missing from the mix in the pic I posted is the kickpanel insulation so don't forget those pieces...They're very important in the scheme of the whole package....Usually if the cardboard backer is shot your commited to buying a new kit... I've reused some firewall/kickpanel backers and made up new yellow insulation using the fiber style home heating ductwork...It looks very close to the original yellow insulation just a touch more dense...I just peeled the aluminum facing off after using the original backer as a template...
