My stock coil springs have been cut down too far and are worn, so they will need to be replaced. Anybody out there make new ones? Also looking for replacment shocks for the car. Suncle the flathead and manual trans is being replaced with small block Chrysler and auto , weight should be close to stock. Interchange between models possibly?

The small block Mopar with an auto trans is about 100-150 lbs lighter then the flathead 6 with a 3 speed. When we pulled the flat 6 out of my son's 47 and installed a 360 auto, the front end lifted about 4", when I put about 1/2 my weight on it, it was back at the original hieght and I'm around 250 lbs. Thanks for the info everyone. I'm closer to 350lb and a passenger will probably take that number to 500lb, so the small block weight savings will probably be more handeling improvment than ride height.

I'll check both of those companies for the springs.

Rocky, if he's got the parts, maybe he wouldn't mind shipping the springs. I would assum they are easier to ship than the whole clip, and I could come up with some payment. He could even ship em and I could pay for shipping on my side so he wouldn't have to worry about figuring it out.

Once again, thank everyone for the info.

i may be intrested in a pair of front spindles if any one has a set or knows what years may be the same as a 1940 dodge,,,mine were adapted before i bought the car by master power brake,,and have 11 inch chevelle rotors, im going to check and see if they have enough room to be redrilled for the mopar /ford/amc pattern,,incase i ever change rims,,ide like to go to a radir wheel,,,

I think I would try a set of 5th Ave rotors on your spindles. Seemes to me you coulod get the "kits" with either a GM rotor or the 5thy Ave rotor, depending on which bolt pattern you wanted. Buying a set of rotors would be cheaper then redrilling a set of rotors, unless you really know a machine shop guy. Gene

from what i understand there has been work done to the spindles by master power brake to accept the GM rotors,,when i get it back in the garage i plan to look and see if i can tell what may have been done,,i could call master power to find out i would think,,but some how i woul dlike to get a 4 1/2 bolt circle,,i have a bolt circle checker,,has all types of patterns on it,, if there is enough meat, i was thinking i could slip it down on the GM pattern and see if theres enough room to drill thru the mopar pattern,,it would be perfectly centered then,,

I'd suggest checking with them to see if a Mopar/Ford rotor can be swapped. If not, there should be plenty of room to drill, since the GM circle is 4 3/4" and the Mopar is 4 1/2" (smaller).

Depending on the year of the car you are building Eaton Detroit Spring can supply you with the springs. I am building a 50 Suburban Wagon and my dropped springs came from them. My front end is about done with dropped uprights (the equivalent of dropped spindles), disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. If your car is close to the same year I can give you the suppliers of all the parts. The disc brakes use Volare rotors and Chevy calipers, I would have liked Mopar but they are hard to mount, Chevy is easy. We are going to run a 340 with injection and a A518 overdrive auto. The rear will be brought up with a Ford 8.8 rear with disc brakes and 3.73 limited slip differential.

once i get to it,, i would think that would be the simplest thing to do ,,,im not sure how the studs are held in to the GM rotor,,,pressed i would hope,,,i currently have dual pattern rims,,that i do like,, but i keep thinking it may look kool with radir rims,,

40 dodge from what ive seen your front suspension looks to be about the same stuff as my 40..i have fat man rack and pinion,,master power brakes, it was like that when i bought the car,,,master power reworked the spindles to accept the chevell rotors,,only kit they had at that time i would guess,,i would of searched till i found mopar/ford rotors kit,, the coils have been cut to give it its stance,,but it has no front suspension travel,,,so rides worse then my dodge 3/4 ton truck ,when on a bumpy road,,,so dropped spindles and coils this year when i get to it,,didnt know eaton had springs made for the drop good to know,,thanks
