The motor 318 stock bore and stroke cast crank,1972 340 cam for a automatic,j heads, 650 DP, 727 with 4:10 gears.
This car is strictly a strip car and I want to switch intakes I'm thinking of a Professinal Products Crosswind or maybe a M1. Any other opinions?
(Yea I know I'm opening up a can of worms) Not really intrested in a Edelbrock Airgap as I've heard bad things about port alginment. What differences do you see between a single plane and a dual plane?

For 318 cubic inches, I would stick with a dual plane.
I did run a Weiand Stealth against a Holley Strip Dominator the same weekend/same conditions and the Stealth was less than .10 slower. With all the gear, converter cam duration and rpm's I run with my 360, I figure the Stealth would be as good or better for any milder application.

I know where you can get one or two!

Crosswind; M1 (you didn't say duel or single plane; I'd go duel plane); or an Edelbrock Performer will do the job. Others will speak their mind. You don't have alot of cam, don't over intake it. With a single plane it would be a little doggy on the bottem end.

With j heads, you also don't have alot of compression, unless you've cut them alot, and even then it's still not much.

Good luck; "teens" are mean, they take a licken' and keep on ticken'.

happy with my air gap on a 318....I've heard the exact opposite--port alignment, and sealing/fitment issues with the PP crosswind....

I'm thinking Dual plane as I like bottom end.

About 5800 It seems like the car flattens out at about that and any more is a waste.

Have you looked at the valve springs... a stock engine
will rev higher than that.... also whats the weight
of the car.... I'm sure you would still need a dual
plane to get the torque... you might want to advance
the cam for added torque but then it takes away the top
end rpm... just thinking out loud

Dual plane all the way! I ran a Air Gap on my 360 and loved it,even had it on the 408 until i got the Super Victor and it still worked good.

The car is a 72 Swinger I'm gonna guess the weght to be about 3400 lbs I am in the process of lighting it up. As far as the valve train I'm in the process of pulling the heads and having them looked at to see if any improvements can be had and it currently has a Offy 360 intake on it.

id go with the airgap over the m1 as the they still provide the power down low (which you need in a 318) and many have had good results with them since the power range goes decently high (i think 6500 or so)

3400 pounds go with the RPM or RPM Air Gap (same-same power wise ) Very good manifold design, especially for a 318

On a bigger motor the M1 single is gonna be worth a little more power up at the very top of the range, but it WILL also make lower average torque and kill 20-30 lb/ft off the bottom end. For you that doesn't make sense, my toy I don't want/need any more down low and at 2800 pounds I could make better use of the above 5000 range.
