Hey guys,
I'm just finishing up some metal work on my orange 70 six pack charger and noticed an area on the passenger side front floor pan at the inside corner right at the base of the tranny tunnel. The corner of the floor pan appears to have been hammered upwards with a ball peen hammer in a perfect circle about the size of a baseball...it's too clean to just be an accidental dent... I had first thought that a previous owner just needed clearance for something back in the cars racing days but decided to check my black 70 six pack four speed charger and found the exact same thing in the exact same spot... That car is all together and I can't see any reason underneath for needing additional clearance in that spot. Was this done at the factory for some reason? or do both my four speed 1970 six pack cars just have a coincidental "alteration" to the floor pan... none of my automatic chargers have it.
Any help is appreciated as I don't want to fix something if it is supposed to be there....

I just looked at my buddies '70 RR 4-speed ragtop which was built at the G-plant (same as your cars), and it doesn't have any dent there... That looks pretty crude and I also see no reason why it would have been necessary to have done such a mod at the factory I owned a '70 V-code -spd Super Track Pak Charger RT a while back, I will see if I have some pics of that area.

It definatley was beat "manually" and looks like crap but both my 70 4-speed six pack chargers have it in the same spot.(they came from different places) I checked both my 69 a-12 4-speed cars and neither of them have it... just the chargers... from the underside there appears to be no reason for it to be there.... It'll be easy to just beat it and shrink it back into shape but I didn't want to do it if it's supposed to be there...

I seem to recall seeing that feature on some cars that had headers installed, that a possibility?
"IF YOU'RE UNDER CONTROL, YOU AIN'T GOING FAST ENOUGH."
no headers on either one and I can't see them needing clearance in that location unless they were massive collectors?
