I have a 74 Dart Sport with a numbers matching 360 and I was thinking of pulling the engine and installing a new cam and aluminum intake. I also may install an 8 3/4" rear end with a 4:10 gear. I was wondering if this is going to hurt the value of the car being that I will be taking the original equipment off or will it help sell the car. I thought about installing bucket seats and a floor shifter in it and run it at the strip. Also I just installed a new Holley 670 carb how big of a cam can I go with and still use this carb, I want a strong runner and a good lope. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if you're keeping the rest of the engine stock, comp XE262 works very well with the factory low compression, and a factory high stall converter. use comp #901 springs. another cam to look at would be the lunati voodoo 60402. use an edelbrock RPM air gap intake. what gear ratio is in there now? if it's a 3.23, you may not enjoy the car with 4.10's if you drive it at highway (55+ MPH) speeds with any regularity. 4.10's are 27% shorter. if you have 3.23's and 26" tall tires, you're turning about 2550 RPM at 60 mph. with 4.10's you'll be buzzing at ~3250 RPM, and 3800 RPM if you ever want to hit the freeway (70 mph)...

keep anything original you pull off of it, cam isn't a big deal, but the carb, intake, seats, rear, etc would be.

I wouldn't worry about hurting the value too much, just don't cut it up, if it already has the 8.1/4, just keep that & build it up, there plenty strong for a mild SB, seeing your wanting to install bucket seats, it must not of came with them, so don't sweat that, i owned a 74 360 Dart sport 4sp. car, if your planning on installing gears & a cam/intake, that 670 will be too small, especially if you end up changing out converters, i just got through installing a 3310 750 on a 360 magnum in my dart, it had a 600 1850, all it has is bolt-ons with RHS heads, stock converter, 2.76 gears, it was night & day, i literally "loves" the 750.

It has a 2 something gear in it now and I don't plan on driving it on interstate, just around town and at the drag strip. With either of these two cams how lopy would the idle be and would the factory exhaust manifolds work or will I have to change to headers? I have 2 1/2" TTI exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers on it now. I may at a later date change to aluminum heads and if I do I know I will have to run headers to get the performance out of them.
