I started up my 73 RR clone yesterday - it hasn't been used all year. Brought it over to my compressor to put some air in the tires and thats when I noticed I had white smoke (yes, antifreeze smelling smoke) coming out of the passenger side of the duals.
I ran it a while so it would get warm and drove it about a half mile on my dead end street. Still smoking after that.
So, about 8 years ago I had a head gasket go and it had causes a HUGE amount of white smoke out the tailpipe, but this wasn't nearly as much.
Other than a blown head gasket or cracked head, what else might I be looking at?

It's a 440, '78 vintage, with mostly stock parts except cam, headers, intake, carb.

I could do a compression test - that would show the offending cylinder right?

Greg

I would suspect a header bolt weeping into the tube thru the gasket, might want to drain your oil, check for water/antifreeze also, lucky your cylinder didn't fill!,....antifreeze in a header pipe takes a long time to "exhaust".......usually the 3/5 or 4/6 numbered cylinders are the culprits for leaking from the bolts

I read on the Jag site that brake fluid, coming through the brake booster vacuum line, will smoke white also... If you have PB.....

first off I would make sure that it isn't condesation. It is that time of the year and there are many times I have seen one side a lot worse than the other. If your coolant isn't way low I would do some more checking before jumping to conclusions. Your coolant level may even look low after standing for a period of time when in reality it is not or just meeds topping off.
Don't start taking anything apart til you do some in depth checking. Head gaskets are not really that proe to leaking.
