She's was together for over 2 years with 1000 plus passes. Was a 30 over stock stroke 440 with Eddy heads, Manley rods, Ross pistons. Crank came out in 3 pieces, Ruined 2 pistons and rods. I can say Manley Rods are tough!!!! Destroyed the block. Busted 6 of the 8 cylinders. All of the main webbing from # 3 was ripped out of the block. Was amazed it didnt hurt the Cam, Lifters, or pushrods. Bent one valve in the eddy's.

1000 runs + , did he ever pull the oil pan and inspect the rod and main bearings as well as look for cracks in the main webs, if not this would be a good example of why you should look after 300 to 500 runs

I'd have to say it's more likely the block broke first and took out the crank. If the crank broke first how could it do all that damage to the block?

A little JB Weld will fix that right up.

Dave Reitz (Tom Sneden's crewchief from back in the 70's) was telling me that when they ran iron blocks on Nitro they would get about 70 runs before the main webs let go. They would crack in the same place. He would run the block when cracked; they would replace it when they had to chisle the main bearings out because they would flow into the crack meaning that it opened up enough to force the bearing into the block . I agree with Cab; regular inspections are a must.
