It's not "looking stupid" if you dont feel like spending half your retirement on a E.T. slip. I been around this stuff since I could walk and watched a lot of guys loose everything they have so they could say they are the fastest. Yea, it's fun but when does it become "stupid"...

Almost forgot,
Wayne Ramos has purchased one of Chuck Rayburns older cars and plans to race on the left coast next year. (maybe Indy)

My wife and I went to the Dutch on Friday and we had a blast. Other than being cold, it was great. I finally got to meet some folks that I have seen on here that I hadnt met.

Frito and Bales were super nice guys and Bales' car is a piece of art. I just kinda wish my wife hadnt seen it, now she thinks thats how nice my car should be, and I could never touch that. LOL
Jeff K. was very nice and helpful too. Hes a tall son-of-a-gun ! Hes younger than I thought too.
Spyphish was really fun to chat with and has a bad hot rod as well ! We both like some sub-par football teams too.........LOL.

The Dutch was fun and I'm glad I went. Thanks to everyone for being so nice. I wanted to meet Charlie but he and his dad were busy working and I didnt wanna bother them. I wish Perkins could have been there, but he'll be out again real soon.
I hope Bucky is out again soon too.

I know I don't post a lot here, but statements like the starting line is junk really bug me.
I know there are many starting line issues at various times at every track, but on a surface that is not ideal temperature (like during the dutch)it is difficult to make a consistent surface. Burnout tire temperature and other factors Like being in the exact perfect spot)are way more critical. The numbers many were running prove that the track must have been okay, good infact. It is as much of a variable by the crew chief, and guy lining up the drvier as it is the surface. Different compounds (traction) work different in different temperatures as well.
Way to easy to put it on the track surface in my opinion. Put some of the blaim of the crew and tire pressure and heat in the tire and placement as well guys.

looks like bucky had more fun at the jaloporama in maryland with his bad hot rod. if you don't know what that is then check out jalopyjournal.com. Wish I would have went to both but went to the dutch. was a good time. it seemd I remeber not too lon ago getting excited when the cars where just going into the 8's. how much more can they go? as far as westcotts. I think when theyy get that trans figured out they will be way ahead of the competition. was watching them in the pits and that trans is still a learing curve

I also neede to comment on john baughmans car. it was great seeing him out there again. with an old race car and westcott power I think that says something for the power westcott makes. I thought the baughmans have another car too?

How long were the Westcotts trying to figure out the stick car? At least 2-3 years?
Hopefully for them they will have a break through.
Baughmans car is at least 2 tenths off the competitive cars. At the et these cars are running that is a lot of hp to find.

my point was baughmans car is an old race car. its been around along time. it dosen't have all the new chassis goodies thes others fdo with a few year old cars. once he gets that car figures out it will be fast. he only just tested at atco prior to the dutch.

also if westcots car is spinning when he leaves the line and he gets that figures out wherther be chassis or tranny his 60' will be killer. alot of races won from there. that 8.29 he did was clealy spinning or a weak launch

I left them (Brooks) out for a reason. I thought it was clear in the posts above that they were on their way but got stuck half way. I was listing people that haven't been out much or not at all.

Is anyone planning on heading south again this year to reset the record like last year?

I know Daniels would like to go. Haven't heard a definate answer from the other guys yet.

I assume Charlie will be there so we pretty much have to bring something to defend the record.

Al Smyth is working on an engine program for the cuda, and the d.p.c.,and did not want to waste money on the entry fees to run 8:70's.When you,Jim and Charlie got down in the 20's,it sent a shock wave to everyone that did not have the money to spend to run the #.I love the fact that you guys are running that fast, but it kinda killed the class this year,in this economy.

I seen his runs. He spun every pass. His dad also spun just as bad. He might be able to get an occasional quick pass with the lighter stick car but it is not consistant enough to win races. Reminds me of a top fuel car running on the edge. Might go fast might blow the tires off or might just blow up!

My take on the Dutch........
It was a great event i felt as i witnessed a great deal by one engine program when you have 5 cars all running respectable numbers. This is saying a lot for the Barton Engine program.
Charlie was making serous power running 162, but getting it to hook every time and the round he lost i was standing on the line, he first spun and 100 feet out or so it when into tire shake big time.
Anyhow it was a neat race, and how many time has it been in the past when all 4 semi finalist goes 8.3's going into that round and its still a anybody could win event.
I also want to thank Ray & David inviting me to come and take a tour of Ray Barton Racing Engines on Monday, i was truly impressed with all the operation going on there. I have never seen so many hemi blocks and toys to play with in one building.

PS watch for the big drop off leaving there drive, i ripped all the wiring out of my trailer dragging leaving the lot, lol.
