Im in the process of doing a 410" SB and have most of the parts, i will be picking the heads up tommorow with flow figures the only drawback is the are the RhS 360 X heads with the max valve lift flaw. Im only going to be running approx .550" and unsure of what duration figures. I think its going to be maybe a stock elim profile. I could list more details.

The question is it seems these 4" strokers work well with a 950 carb, will that be the case for my combo.

Depends on the application. Are you talking about a 950HP type of carb? Those are usually 750 main bodies with the choke housing removed. They are nice carbs but the venturi is smaller than a 850 DP. That might be exactly what you need or it might not, depends on the application.

I'm going to use a 650 HP on my SB stroker. This motor is 427 inches with Hughes Stage III ported heads. Bigger isn't always better and all of that you know.

Holley list 80675 ( 750 ultra hp ) has a venturi size of 1.376" with a throttle bore of 1.688"

Holley list 80676 ( 950 ultra hp )has a venturi size of 1.376 with a throttle bore of 1.750"

While the main bodies are the same ( ie the venturi size) the baseplate is larger resulting in more overall CFM flow.

This is one area where a dyno will not accurately tell you what your car will do on the track, you are not launching the car onthe dyno, where one carb will pull the number on the dyno, that same carb might be a pig onthe car at the track.

In testing, most have found the more carb you throw at a small block stroker the happier they are!

My tests have backed that up with small block stock strokes, strokers, and big block strokers.

If the main body is the same, couldn't a guy just get a 950 base plate and convert his from 750 to 950 specs? Metering blocks different?

I would bet a pretty darn good amount of money that stroker mentioned above with a decent sized cam will continue to ET better with each increase in carb size from 650 to 750 to 950, and perhaps even beyond in size, depending on a couple of other factors. It will easily run its worst ON THE TRACK with the 650.

Zero doubt about it.

I have ( in a single day) track tested a pro systems 750, pro systems 1000, race demon 1025 and a 1100 pro systems dominator on a eddie headed 416 without a ton of compression( 12 to 1 ish)...the fastest two carbs were the 1025 rs race demon and the dominator, and it wasnt even close. The 1025 being 8 hundreds better than patricks 1000 hp surprised me a little.

Thanks to Patrick for allowing me to use the carbs, i bought the dominator and still have it, and sold the 1025 a short while later on Moparts.

How does the 950 compare to the 850 having a larger venturi and what could you expect with these carbs on the street?

Smaller carbs have a faster reaction on the street
(better throttle response) but lack on top end almost
every time... RPM has a big factor on the size of
the carb... I run a 1050 dom on a 405ci but turn it
8200... if I had a bigger carb I'd run that

We ran a 950 hp on a w5 headed 414, went to a 1050 dom and picked up a half second, major difference in top end performance,Have a bg 1000 that works good also,

Speaking of Holleys size, where does the 830 downleg HP fit?

I'm running a 750 annular booster mighty demon on my 408 - 11.2:1, big hydraulic (256 and a little over .600 lift). Runs good, but I'm wondering if a bigger carb would help? Heavy automatic car.

I have pro systems 4150 based 1000s, I wish I would have bought one of his Dominator's
for my 420" W9, especially when i saw the size of the wilson spacer we decided to put on the intake.

Not putting words in anyones mouth, but I think the SB stroker AndyF is mentioning is for a road race application, and crisp throttle response is therefore highly valued, and since I am building an almost identical SB Stroker motor and application, I am leaning towards a 750? since we are usually traction limited and most passing takes pplace at the top end.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I run a 1050 race demon RS on my 408 Indy head pump gas street strip Dart sport. I change the boosters from downleg to annular on the street which actually changes the carb to a 950. It runs really nice on the street & has exellent throttle response for a 260/266 @.50 solid roller. It has gone 9.87 at 136 with the downleg boosters in. I have not run it at the track with the annulars but I think the motor is alot smoother with them, has way better tip in & it does not give up much power.

The annular boosters are very responsive compared to the down legs, may be the ticket in a road race rig or street rig

if traction is limited, would not a larger carb to soften the lower speed hit not be a positive? It'd hit the tires less and you'd have more top end charge. Just a thought.
