Does anyone out there know how long a stock dip stick should be for a mid 70's 440, with stock pan, i believe it is a 6qt, i took off a deep sump moroso pan because it hung down too low for the car, i would like to use the same dip stick but when i stick it in it actually hits the bottom of the pan,and i know the "full" mark has to be off as well.

find out the # of qts the sump takes, add that exact amt then shorten/remark the stick & your set. EDIT be on a level surface

Sounds like someone either cut the tube or has the wrong stick. It dosent matter if you have a 4 qt or 10 qt pan full is full.It just takes more oil to hit the full mark.As Robert said just add till you know it full and mark.Ive never seen a BB stock stick hit the bottom of the pan.Rocky
