I've been running stock eddy heads and a hydraulic cam on my 512 for over a year now, puts out 540 hp and 612 fpt. This is with a 8 3/4 rear and 3.55 gears. I can run high 11s.

This morning I dropped the car off at the shop for the winter project work. Included in this, along with a lot of chassis stiffening and a Dana 60 w/4.10s, is a Gear Vendors overdrive for the 727.

Since this is a street/strip car I am wondering when it comes along to the heads, intake, cam and torque converter swap (in April or so), how agressive I should go? I'm going with Indy heads and intake, plus a Comp solid roller cam and likely a 9.5" torque converter. To keep it streetable, I''d think the compression should be at 11:1, no?

Anyway, it's nothing to add a 100 horses under this scenario, but functionally speaking why shouldn't I be more agressive with my cam choice since for regular cruising I'll have the OD? What's the downside to going to 700hp+ vs an easy 650hp? At the track the upside is FUN (little downside), but on the street I'm not so sure --sorry, no experience with 700hp street cars . Gas milage is not really a concern here. I think the OD will mitigate a lot of the negatives on street if I were to go more agressive.

Opinions? Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks.

how much maintenance do you want to do to the valve train? I just choose a little over .600 lift solid roller for my street engine because this was the biggest grind that I could run with minimal maintenance. Any bigger than this and the springs have to be so strong that parts life is a concern.

Take care,

Good question. Almost none! I can put up with adjusting the valves for valve lash once a season or else I'd stick with the a hydraulic cam, but I don't want to be constantly muching with the motor at all.

That's what I wanted long parts life with just an occasional adjustment. My engine is a Hemi. So I dont know if the answer would be different for a BB but I doubt it as the limiting factor is still the spring pressure vs. parts life. My cam is 245/256 @ .050 .618 .631 lift w/ Comp 999 springs. I choose a solid over a hydraulic for 2 reasons, 1st is I didn't want to take motor apart to grind on block and 2nd it's upgradable to a bigger one!

No Comp has not made the cam yet!! with the old cam it made 600 HP.

Here's what I'm running in my 511 wedge with Indy EZ heads. The car is a 69 Bee with AC, PB and PS and ran an 11.74 on 275/15 BFG drag radials.
