Hi. Pretty new here but need some help. I'm just getting my car on the road but have a cooling issue. Has a 4 core, triple flow rad with twin SPAL 1780cfm fans and shrouding. Engine is a new KB588ci with Stage V heads. Problem: Just idling (as have yet to do roadtest) the car sometimes maintains a 190F temp, then other times it climbs to 205-210+ then I shut it off. Thermostat is a 180F one. Belts are not slipping and alternator is 180amp and charging circuit is good. One strange thing I do notice is that the outlet side of the rad is a lot cooler than the inlet side which make sense but then why am I overheating. It is almost like the water flow through the block is been restricted and flowing too slowly through the cooling system. There are no air blocks. Cheers.

Try some Royal Purple / Water Wetter. It drops the surface tension of your cooling system so the coolant flows better. It dropped my system 10 degrees. What size thermostat do you have? perhaps its a small throat and the water is restricted? What water pump do you have? If its the Non-AC then it has less fins and that will reduce your flow as well. With dual SPAL fans and a 4 core radiator that should not be happening.
I know its a lame question but you do have a spring installed on the lower radiator hose right?
How about jetting on the carb (or is it fuel injected) if its running lean you could be heating up from that

Welcome to the site. Though 215 isn't a dealbreaker I too would be concerned about a 25+ temp change with no other changes. I'd take out the stat for a day & see what you get as it might be sticking slightly at different times just enough to slow the flow a bit (if so it wont fix itself & will possibly stick shut & you have way too much into your eng to risk it). Holler back when you find something.

All good suggestions and things to check / try, but keep in mind - just because you have a 4 core rad doesn't necessarily mean you have enough rad to handle that motor. Heat transfer efficiency drops way off with the 3rd core and less than 20% by the 4th core. Thats why aluminum rads with 2 large cores transfer more heat than 3/4 core brass rads. Just something to keep in mind after you have gone through all the other scenerios.

Thanks and really appreciate all your input. I'm running F.A.S.T. EFI and the temps read within 3F of the cars Autometer (Cobalt) so we think its pretty accurate.
The FAST tune can have a dramatic effect on temp. This is what I do and I see this all the time. Make sure the A/F ratios are in the correct range and that you are running enough timing (retarded timing will cause heat). Obviously you have to make sure that the crankshaft ref angle in the software is correct, etc.
Download "setting up the fast XFI system" from my web site. Good luck.

don't wast your money on water wetter or ice as once you put antifreeze in it does not help! works only in pure water!!
Can I use a can of water pump lube/antirust along with water wetter/ice for rust protection?
Yes, I have racers and customers that used Justice Brothers Super Radiator Cooler with Justice Brothers Cooling System Protector.
Real life test: http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/0703_turp_cooling_system_additives/test_results.html
The Justice Brothers Cooling System Protector fights electrolysis, anti-rust, neutralizes acids, lubricates water pumps, and contains Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCA's)

Thanks for that. I have printed out your document and will give to tuner next week. Will post back the results.
