Seems like the 69 Dodge Dart is a hard vehicle to get repop parts for. Seems like a majority of the parts I need are used only. Anyway

Anybody know where or who can restore a front grille and bezels for a 1969 Dodge Dart. Structurally it is in good shape...just needs restoring.

How about the Driver side outside mirror. Ive got 2 of them and want to send at least 1 of them out to get rechromed but dont know if taking apart the cables is the right thing to do. What do most other people do in this case. Year One sells them but $269 and I'll be Darned if I am going to pay $269 for an outside mirror. Are there special tools for this??

For the headlight bezels I used aircraft stripper to remove the old paint. I used different tools to pound out any small dings around the edges. I then sanded the edges with 240 grit to smooth out any rough spots, then 400, 600, 800 & 1200 grits. I then used buffing & polishing compound using a buffing wheel on my bench grinder. Last I taped off all the areas not to be painted & painted with flat black.

I believe alot of trim restorers will say you need to anodize them after polishing to keep them from oxidizing, but mine still look great after 1 year.

My bezels look a hell of alot better than they did before & cost me less than $10 in supplies.

As for the grill & mirror, I would look at junk yards, car shows & Ebay for good ones since the bezels usually are damaged, not the grill or mirror. I bought my grill at Red Barns show in MI a few years back for $50. I bought the driver mirror in great shape (no pitting) with good cables for $20 at winter Chrysler classic in Columbus this year.

The only piece I haven't been able to find cheap is the rear trunk trim panel for 69 Dart GT. This part is imposible to find in great shape & if you do most people are asking $400. I got a quote on restoring mine at Mopar Nats this last year & the guy said $800. Anyway, I'll keep looking , but is the last piece I need to replace at this point.

Good Luck

Well there are repop parts out for it. Quite a few things, even the chrome inserts for the bulge hood, rear tailights, rear t/l bezels, and even a brand new bulge hood from AMD. The don't make 69 headlight bezels or grille. The grilles aren't that hard to find not broken and not dented. You just have to remove the anodizing, sand, polish, and paint to restore them. Or I'm going to guess you'll pay well over $700 to have the three pieces restored.

I think AMD makes full quarters for that car now too.

Check out the www.pgclassic.com website. They have remote mirrors for less. IMHO, at their price it's not worth the rechroming costs.

Also check out the www.beaparts.com site. Heck, you can guy new dash bezels even, and even a really nice new dash pad for only $225 or so.

I guess thats my point on the grille & bezels. I bought them at a swap meet in Warren, Mi about 3 years ago and they are in decent shape. I believe I paid $200 for them. I am not a body man by any stretch of the imagination and dont want to try it on a piece I paid $200 for. I need to know of someone that will restore them for me. I live in the South Lyon Mi area.

Thanks for the Link on the Outside Mirror. $169 is better Than $269.

You could call this company that is in MI.

http://www.tuffwheelrestoration.com/metal.html

I believe they restore grilles & bezels. Maybe someone here has used them & will give input.

I had my grille & bezels stripped and re-anodized by a place in Redford. Then I masked & painted the new black & silver paint. Wasn't that hard, mainly just time consuming. Send me a PM and maybe we could work something out. I live in South Lyon also. Kevin

Like Kevin mentioned, the masking is time consuming. My grill/bezels needed nothing cept for a repaint.

Heads up, common error, GTS and Swinger 340 have different paint schemes for the same grill (GTS blacked out, Swinger 340 not so much).

Hello:
LOL you think 69 is a tough year to find ...try 67.
Any way if you got the bucks I think you would be hard pressed to beat the quality of work put out by "The Finishing Touch" of Chicago. They did the Bezels and grill on my GTS, but it was not cheap. http://www.thefinishingtouchinc.com/

Thanks
Maynard
