I found an old copy of Hot Rod Magazine in storage and the house.

It had an article which was 1 of 3 about a Hot Rodded 383 Mopar engine.

It had ported 906 heads,+.060 Bore Pistons 10.3:1 CR,stock rods/ crank, Comp Cams 239/247 at .050 .573/597 inch lift 1.6:1 rocker rollers.

With an Edelbrock Torker 383 intake and an 850 Holley it made 456 Lb-FT of Torque at 4,900 rpm and 457 HP at 5,900.(394 CID)

Would this engines output be vastly improved with 11.25-12:1 CR and a 413/440 with resized 383/400 size mains (3.75 inch), 6.76 413/440 Rods, Aluminum entry level heads same cam/intake/carb (438 CID)?

Would using a 3.90 crank for the 400 help more (455 CID)?

What do you guys/gals think?

Ofcourse the bigger ci motor is better but if you are just talking about a 383..stock stroke those are decent numbers. I think it would be hard to improve on them with a set of Eddies or stealths OOTB. 383s are kinda the forgotten motor, the 440's little brother that is often overlooked...but they could really scream if set up right.

I've been building the combo I bolded forever now with a +.030 overbore, to get 12.5 you need a net, including valve reliefs, 10cc dome on your piston with 82 cc chamber 906's. To do the build you are speaking of will require a custom piston Take that Hotrod HP figure with a grain of salt. If it's the article that gets posted up all the time it was done on a dyno in southern california that was later found out to be HAPPY , though most with half a clue KNEW the numbers were off, the numbers were inflated. Unless you are tripping over 383's, like myself, start your build with a 400 block and don't use open chamber iron heads .

It seems like here in North-Central Ohio 383/400s are really easy to find but then again so are 413s.

I have read the last post and then reread it as well as 440 Sources Stroker Kits.

It seems a like a single plane or tunnel ram 438 or 455 with either max ported 906/452 or CNC ported Stealth aluminum heads would have to be really fun in a light weight '27 T roadster or '32 5W Ford coupe.
