I'm in the market for a new set of headers to replace the Hooker Comps currently on my wife's car. ('70 E-body with 440/727...manual steering and brakes, No AC. Factory iron heads, but possibly a pair of Indy SRs or Edelbrocks down the road. Car currently runs deep into the 11's in 100% street trim.) The car has a 3" TTI X-pipe system on it, so I considered TTI headers. That being said, I have heard both good and bad about their headers. As an alternative, I considered Dougs headers since they have been around forever and they have a real good reputation. I'd most likely be considering 2" primary headers. They would be coated as well. Any feedback on either vendor as far as fit/finish/etc...? As of right now, I'm leaning towards Dougs headers. Thanks in advance.

Well Scott, with all the money you have you can get them gold plated. I'm looking to upgrade to the 2" primaries from the 1 3/4" TTIs. I found a local place that does high temp coatings, so I'm going to order bare headers and get a colored finish. I don't think the factory applied coating held up well on my TTIs. If price isn't a concern go with the TTIs and order their collector kit. Everything should bolt right up. According to TTIs site, the collector adapter kit is supposed to be included with the headers. Some vendors will try to charge you extra for it, so beware. I'm going to try to squeeze a deal out of TTI when I go to the Fall Fling. Doug's can be had for $640 coated/$500 uncoated through Jegs. You'll likely need to have a shop fab the collector tie-ins though.

Lefty,
Nice pics, and they DO look well-built. Are the tubes pinched for the spark plugs?

Some of them are. I've changed plugs twice since the install. Not too hard. The two things I've run into with them are -
I had to clearance the power steering box about 1/8" Basically I ground off some cast letters/numbers.
I had to buy plug boot insulators to keep from smoking spark plug boots on a couple of plugs. After I put them in someone came out with ceramic boot plug wires which I would try if I had to do it over again.

I have manual steering and angle plug Eddy's, so the Doug's are starting to look better all the time...
Thanks

I have TTI's for my 65 Dodge, but if I had to do it over again it would be Doug's in a heartbeat. Joey
Even If I hit the lotto, Doug,s Headers is a no brainer.
