I found a 1941 plymouth hood locally for cheap. Does anybody know if this will fit on the dodge. I remember something in the differences btw the brands size wise and stylistically the plymouth hood is one unit opening from a firewall hinge?

25 bucks for an unfinished one and 50 for a painted one....My grill and frontend have been modified by a P.O. with 1x1 aluminum square tube stock.
I am not a big fan of the butterfly hood and am looking at different options in order to get into the engine compartment. Has anyone welded up and decked a butterfly hood? I was thinking the Plymouth would fit fairly nice with a little bit of fanagling. If it is narrower then I would think it would be easier to weld up the og hood instead of adding to a plymouth hood.....Any ideas?

wonder if the 41 plymouth front end would fit your 42 dodge?? or a 42 ply front end,,but that may be hard to locate,,

may be easier to shorten your hood from front to back and make it like a 40 dodge hood then weld it in to one piece,,and figure out hinges,,
or make it open from one side or the other like a 50 buick does ,,weld it from undernieth or make a frame undernieth and keep the center hood trim making it look orignal from the out side,if the 41 ply front end would fit, that would be what i would do,unless you perfer the 42 dodge sheet metal,,it is more rare, yours is the first 42 dodge ive ever seen,,41 ply,s are sotra common. just mt .02 cents

well, Lets assume that my car is a 1942, Of this I am not sure....It is titled as a 1941 but that it definately is not. If it is a 1942 then somebody butchered a pretty rare car...for all i know its a 1948. Either way I am not all for the butterfly hood or the homemade 90's grill, so something has got to change, just looking at options available currently. Those cars you posted are spot on with that 40 grill...I wish I had more background on the car.....You should see the interior....

The 40-42 are different than the 46-48.
Look at the running board area.
Google search for the different years (even though some are labelled wrong) and you should be able to spot them.
That Canadian stuff sure adds another layer of complexity!

its hard to say what it is but i am leaning more and more towards a 42 is it possible the build date would be late 1941 but actually be a 1942 model thus the mix up in the title work....Is there a VIN registry i could apply the cars VIN against or is this even accurate? Heres another look....

Right on thanks for the information. It definately is a 1942 according to that information. I will have to verify the serial number on the door jamb to the one listed on the title....Thanks
Joe

Mopar hoods are a funny thing. plymouths are narrow at the cowl and 39 dodge hoods are shorter than a 40 hood. Lets just say I have 2 hoods I can't use. Oh yeah only 40 hoods rely on the hood moulding to complete the hinge, don't know if plymouths do but I know dodges are. Anybody have a good center chrome strip for a 40 dodge hood? later shawn

the center hinge cover seems to be a popular item along with trunk lids people are looking for,,my friends 48 dodge i think requires the molding to finish the hinge,,,il have to look at it again
