The piece of linkage for the kickdown that attaches to the carb throttle lever. Pop that piece off the lever and turn it clockwise(if you're looking at it from the front of the car).

This will shorten the rod.

The way you should have it setup is at idle the kickdown linkage is pulled fully forward. But as soon as you start to press the throttle it starts to move the kickdown. At WOT there may still be some slack left, ie at full throttle the kickdown still may be able to go a little more to the back, this is okay. Give that a try and see if it helps.

Wide open throttle will go to 4800 or better before shifting. Did it shift if you let up a little? 3500 rpm isn't very high.

I don't think you have any problem. It sounds like it's working like it should.

3500 is not high for up shift at WOT. Sounds a bit low to me. At WOT mine shifts into 3rd at 4600.
