I have a 451 stroker what kinda rpms do these like the most with a solid flat tappet cam? I am shifting at 6200 now and a few people say the 451 pulls the best it like 7200 any thoughts on this?

8200:p Well that is where we shift the Cuda but it is a 525"er

FWIW my ole 451 in the Belvedere worked best at 6700. Steel rod SR head ran mid 10's at 3770lbs with a Scott Brown cam.

Either you got a real small cam, or you're sandbagging......

The key part of that is solid flat tappet cam. Although with extreme setups it can rpm sky high, most valvetrain setups will need attention over 7000 rpm. And between 6500 and 7000 valve spring surge can be an issue unless you take some steps to avoid it. With a few tricks you can go 7500, but the spring pressures risk wearing/wiping a lobe, unless you use ceramic faced lifters (Schubeck style)

Ofcourse, your head flow, cam duration, etc. all play a role on what to shift your engine at.

More engine/trans info needed to help figure out a starting shift point for your specific combo.

A guy we was pitted with at Norwalk had 500 cid in a Demon and he had bought the engine already together out of a dragster, Indy heads and intake , roller cam, dominator carb, He was told by original owner shift at 7500, He was conservative and was shifting at 6800 and was running 9.95. wanted to slow down for 10.0 shootout so backed it down to 6000 and car went 9.90, backed it down to 5500 and car went 9.84. Decided if He was going to slow down this way, He was going to have to shift at 7000,lol

I have ran a lot of different BB combinations, the 451 is a 440 stock stroke crankshaft in a low deck, it is the same as a 440 with .060 overbore. I ran one of those with a set of M.W. heads, intake and 750 carbs, we could slow that car down a tenth by moving the shift points in 1st and 2nd gear from 6400 RP to 7000 RPM. That was with a Isky 616-590 grind with all Isky valve train parts with the springs set up the way they wanted them My point is you will have to take the car out and try different shift points to find out what works best in your combination Converter, car weight, rear gear and trans ratio, tire size and so on all play a part on what works best on shift points BTW, I shift my 518 low deck pump gas stroker at 7300 for the best ETs

I shift my 501 at 6500 and cross at 6800 with lil ez 295's. My head and cam combo are easy on springs and parts and makes good torque. Best of a 10.22 @ 129 in a 3800 pound sled.
