Hello all...Ive been lurking here for sometime and figured i would ask upon you for some advice. My situation is a normal guy working a factory job with 2 kids and very little extra cash. I have a 1980 dodge mirada i scored for $200 and it is in great condition but the 904 trans is out. I want a car that i can take to the strip and run in the trophy classes and would like to see it run in the 14s but would be happy with whatever it could give me. I have been saving a few parts over the past year that i have scrounged and want to try to get something built over the winter..Right now i have these parts in my garage...

I have a very good running 360 in a dodge pickup with flat top cast pistons and stock 1:88 heads..

Edlebrock torker 340 intake

factory cast 4bbl intake from dippy cop car

a set of summit headers

a holley 600 vac and a edlebrock 600 and a holley 650 dp

i have a 340 cam

i have a 727 trans and a 904 trans

a 8 1/4 from the dippy cop car 2:94 open and i also have a B-body 8 3/4 open with ?? gears
but i do have access to a 3:91 suregrip for the 8 3/4

crager supertrick front runners and 2 cop wheels for the rear..

a set of used 26" DOT street slick

10 gallon?? fuel cell

holley blue pump

My idea is to throw some of this stuff on the 360 and try to have cheap fun..I was thinking that i would take out the seats for less weight and put in just one bucket seat and maybe take out heater and such...Probably put on a hood scoop and seal it to the carb as well.

What you guys think i could do?? I know i need a convertor and maybe a better cam. Im not against buying parts i need. But im on a tight budget and diapers and food on the table have priority. Any ideas, helpful tips etc. i would love to hear

Thanks!!

In my book if your looking for cheap fun use what you got. Use the 8.25 and try to put a suregrip and some gears in it like 4.10s. Use the 727 with a b&m shift kit and factory hi stall TC. 340 cam with torker intake and 600 eddy, open headers and try to get it light. My guess would be 14.90s to 15.30s in the 1/4

I'm no expert on the rest of your setup, but I have experience witht the Edlebrock Torker intake. For street driving, it's a cold blooded, gas eatin' DOG! But.... when the revs hit 3000 and the cam comes in... it's GOLD. But then, as a much younger man back in the late 70's when I ran it, my car was a built 360 with a Crower cam and 340 2.02 heads. My 77 Volare Road Runner was my daily driver at the time. I clearly rember that intake was a gas suckin' pig and on cold humid days, wouldn't idle worth spit... but when you romped on it... hold on... So, as long as it's a strip car, you should be OK.

Greg

The car will be stricly for the strip no street time at all... Just looking for something to run in the trophy class at our local strip. Hope to keep it simple and keep it fun. Would love to be able to spend more money on it but you know how it goes...

I also have many parts from the dippy cop car. I have the 8 1/4 the cop leaf spring drive shaft sway bar etc.

The Torker340 any from our experience won't even make a good boat anchor. The later torker is a different manifold and can work well.
For your needs a dual plane would be better thoguh. An LD340, Performer RPM or Airgap would work good for you.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!
