Just bought a set of BS heads off e-bag they will need a little repair work but its very minor just wonderig what is the best intake to run on a low deck motor. what kind of flow numbers can you get out of these with out any welding or getting to crazy with the grinder

All depends on what you want. I like taking them to MW size and then they'll go 330cfm pretty easily. Give us more info on the engine and intended purpose.
OOTB they flow pretty poor by today's standards.

It depends on which port size they are now I had a set SR with standard 440 ports size and no porting that flowed 280 at .600 on a super Flow 600 bench, I sent them to Jeff at MCH for CNC porting to Max Wedge size and they ended up flowing 350 at .600 on the same 600 bench

the short block is a 499 low deck 12 to one compression cam motion roller cam 461/440 lobe lift 273/280 duration I'll be using 1.58 rockers.
What intake do you use when going to max wedge size

I run a pair on my 499 low deck. Max wedge size indy 400-3 intake. The heads flow good. I mill the heads to 67cc chamber (13.7 comp). The engine made 840Hp with a Scott Brown roller cam.

You won't get away with the BS rockers and that cam. They are not strong enough for the spring required for that cam. Your probably going to need a new set of headers too unique to that head.

they have relocated sparkplugs which require special headers to clear. TTI makes some. Hey Hardcore, did'nt you get some BS heads to flow around 380 CFM?(IIRC)

Long story but, after hundreds of flow tests (self-taught) they were in the 370 range by .750". There are a few good CNC programs for them now. But flow isn't everything. (I learned to leave high HP headwork to a professional LOL.) (IMO) These heads were released in a time when there weren't many options available for BBM and their straight exit spark plug really dampens their marketablity. One addl. thing I might add is the existing pistons may need valve pocket work for radial clearence. I don't consider them an easy, practical, or economical 'bolt-on' upgrade considering what is available now.

Wouldnt buy anything but B1's, either original or BS's.
Lots of meat in head for durability, can get great numbers with work if desired.
Didnt know it for quite a while.
Excellent people to boot.
Thought somebody had cnc program to get 350+ with a std port window.

Thanks for the input the header issue is a new one I have not heard about before as I have a friend that has run an a body big block header on his.
I would be interested in who is cnc porting these and getting big numbers out of a non max wedge port will probably go with an Indy intake an max wedge these Dave

Your friend may not have underchassis(inside the frame rails)headers(?). Not all of the plugs are unaccessable, mostly the #6 and #5...just depends how the headers are designed. Hooker can be made to work with some dinging here and there.

I had Jeff at Modern cylinder head cnc port (to M.W. size) the set of B1-BS I had last year. They flowed 280 at .600 before porting with the standard 440 port size and flowed 350 at .700 after porting. I put them on a 470 C.I. 440 block with 12.0 to 1 compression, tunnel ram with two Holley 750 D.P. carbs, Crane cams custom ground solid roller that is 274@.050 and ground on a 106 LSA in at 105. that motor made 722 HP at 7000 RPM with 615 ft. lbs torque at 5400 RPM I have had other heads, and still do, that outflow the ported B1-BS but those heads did and do work very well IMHO As far as a single four barrel intake to use I would and do, use the Indy 440-2 intake (or the 400-2 for a low deck motor))with a tapered adapter for the Dominator carbs and add a one inch cloverleaf phenolic spacer under the Dominator carb.
