Has anyone ever done a comparison of the different Big Block Al water pump housings? There is the MP one, one from 440 Source, plus EBAY has a few, and who knows where else. Which one do you have and how do you like it? Any to avoid for performance issues?

I bought my aluminum housing and pump from Mancini as it was their brand. The told me the only difference from the MP one was the Mopar name on it. And the MP one is $110. dollars more. But the Mancini one works fine for me. Ron

Go read some of the comments on the Dodge Charger forum, under: Mopar Garage; Engine, Transmission, Rearend, & Exhaust, 2nd thread about overheating issue resolved.

Back when the National Hemi Owner was still running in the late 70s early 80 the News Letter hade a fantastic article comparing all the Hemi/BB Water pump housings and all the different pumps. One thing I remember was when we all got together and talked about the article at one of the meets was a lot of people stated that these units Housing and Pumps must be a matted unit or it will cavitage behind the pump in the house causing over heating.

Ronnman,

Thanks for the link. It was a lot of reading, but well worth it. I now know where I will get the housing/pump when the time comes. Until then, I'll stay with my stocker.

I would like to add that currently I am not using the 440Source waterpump but only the housing.

I am using a stock like over the counter water pump with the 440source housing. I did have a 440 souce water pump on my engine but discovered that it was too thick and made the bolts rub against my billet water pump pulley so I did not use it....apparently I may have dodged a potential overheating problem with the 440 source water pumps.

John,

Thats the first time Ive heard someone recomend the Milodon pump. Have you had good results or is this just considered the new ticket?

Hello:
Maybe i'm old fashioned but, I have a hard time seeing the need for aluminum water pump and housing for a street machine. Rather put those dollars elsewhere. I had alumimum units on my race car just for weight savings..actually only saved about 8 pounds i think.

That's why people are using them , the weight savings , I have ground on the one I have to make it LOOK stock , the nose of my BB A body is heavy enough.
