My dad has a 1973 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon. Although it has some rust it is a great running car and can haul about anything around. However after 36 years of service the gas tank has a couple of 1/8" holes and a couple of pinholes in the front bottom of the tank. I have tried cleaning and sanding down to bare metal and it was bone dry, used several layers of the permatex epoxy sealer with the fiberglass mat but it only lasts a couple of weeks. A new tank is not available and used ones cost over $300 plus shipping. Sometime in the past before he owned the car they must have had a leaking problem at the sending unit gasket as there is no lock ring or gasket so it appears that someone soldered the sending unit in so an internal ssealer is not and option and steam cleaning the tank would destroy the sending unit. I am looking for someone in the Tampa Bay area who could solder a patch on the bottom about a 3 sq. inch area that would not damage the good existing sending unit. Any ideas?

Radiator shops normally work on gas tanks. You can try there.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I agree JB weld. When the kids car got stolen they punched a hole in it.Cleanded it put a screw in and JBed it over the when it was real tacky a piece of thin sheet and another coat of JB.Then let it dry for a day. That was over a year ago and still dry as a bone and its dead on the bottom of the tank.Rocky

Ahhh the proper use of JB weld. I hope that AshburnMike doesn't see this thread or I'll never hear the end of it.
