My dad has a 1973 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon. Although it has some rust it is a great running car and can haul about anything around. However after 36 years of service the gas tank has a couple of 1/8" holes and a couple of pinholes in the front bottom of the tank. I have tried cleaning and sanding down to bare metal and it was bone dry, used several layers of the permatex epoxy sealer with the fiberglass mat but it only lasts a couple of weeks. A new tank is not available and used ones cost over $300 plus shipping. Sometime in the past before he owned the car they must have had a leaking problem at the sending unit gasket as there is no lock ring or gasket so it appears that someone soldered the sending unit in so an internal ssealer is not and option and steam cleaning the tank would destroy the sending unit. I am looking for someone in the Tampa Bay area who could solder a patch on the bottom about a 3 sq. inch area that would not damage the good existing sending unit. Any ideas?
