I had the same issue. I went with a different rack and pinion where the shaft was horizontal with the ground and the steering linkage under the oil pump.

Hey guys I've got some problems with my new chassis in the Duster. The stock big block oil pump is in the way of the steering linkage now that I am running a rack and pinion steering. Anyone know of a decent and somewhat inexpensive external oil pump kit that I can run? Thanks
Is it the filter it crashes into or is it the pump, could go with a remote filter

It's the pump housing, thanks.

I already bought my rack but could you send me some info like pics and part #s? Thanks.
Maybe I could return the rack for a different one.

First rack was a Wilwood. The shaft for the column came out with an up and to the left angle and went directly into the oil pump. New rack is a stilletto. The steering shaft is horizontal with the ground and perpendicular to the rack. Pic with the motor out

Thanks BigCube, you wouldn't have a part # for the rack would you? and maybe a link where to buy one, I did a search and didn't come up with a whole lot. Thanks Bro

Check with S&W race cars, they are a dealer for the narrow stiletto rack used on dragsters. I don't have a part number but they only had one model for a door car. It was setup for 24" center to center frame rails. There was a little extra fabrication needed because it does not come with any type of rod ends or ball and socket. I have piece of hex alum that is threaded with right and left ends. Then there are to heims per side and and toe is adjusted just like it would be with a sleeve and tie rod ends. Their number is 1-800-523-3353 Another choice is VPrace cars... here's a link http://www.vpracecars.com/userimages/VPRC08PG10.pdf
