justinp61 OP I Live Here Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 11,684 W. Kentucky	I am setting up my new gears for the Dart, 742, 8 3/4". Pinion depth calls for 2.717", it's at 2.7175", back lash is at .007", 25# pre load on the pinion, new gears. Drive side. New, I added a .010" shim to the pinion. DoctorDiff master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 8,016 Polson, MT	Don't rely on the gauge. The contact pattern is everything. Look at the shape of the pattern. An ideal pattern is wide, with soft rounded edges. It should not look like a knife blade. Pinion is too far away. Try 0.010" thicker shim then post the result. Contact info

I sgree with the upper right picture in the manual. .010 thou spacer probably will get ya there. I had my dads dana in and out probbably 6-7 times. I even had the factory dodge scooter block, and pinion depth tools. What a pain.. Kasey
