Just Got my Runner on the road and im trying to dial in the transmission. It will shift from 1st to 2nd at 2200-2300 rpm, then 3rd gear you really have to be cookin at over 3,000 rpm for it to got into 3rd gear. It also down shifts to soon in drive. Im running a new loakar kickdown cable. I didnt cut any off the cable and its adjusted for the most "slack " possible. There is no real slack in the cable but their is no tension so to speak either. I know on a GM the KD cable has slack until its almost wide open throttle. I hope this can be an easy fix or atleast someone can point me in the right direction.

I adjust my kick down cable so when the throttle is wide open the kick down cable is pulled all the way "full on"
Then I test drive and begin adding slack until I like when the 1st to 2nd upshift occurs. The 2-3 upshift is usually OK at that point.

You are probably going to have to drill a new hole in the throttle pressure arm on the trans closer to the pivot shaft - around the same distance as the cable hook up on the carb.

So am i actually adjusting this setup the WRONG way? I need to take the slack out ? So when i go full throttle it adds slack?
No, as the throttle opens the kick down cable should be getting pulled "tighter" also...

lokar when at wot you want it tight, pulling the throttle pressure valve lever all the way back.. drill a hole closr to the center shaft to correct ratio..result will vary I have dozens of tpv lever from over the yrs,it is possable to find one thats clocked more than others on the tpv stem, this could help correct ratio also..the d hole is clocked diff and some arms are longer/shorter this is the ? that the starts with when some one suggest the bouchillon kit over the lokar kit as being better...which it is the bouchillon kit uses a late model set up and cable with the corret ratio throttle lever adaptor on the carb, its tuned for the mopar throttle pressure valve lever ratio on the tranz, so its much easier to fine tune the shift points now the

OK that is how i have it but I have NO adjustment left to give more slack in the cable and i didnt even cut any of the cable like the directiosn mentioned

drill the hole next to the end one by a 1/8"...leave room for more holes if needed closer in to the d hole may drill more than one to find the sweet spot if the drilled holes dont get you right.. let me know if you want a diff lever on the tranz,I can find one with the d-hole clock to give you more adjustment forward or back I gots plenty, just need to see where yours is clocked at,and know which way to go with it

while you have it off,you can see how the D-hole is clocked I hold it with the end a 6:00 and the D-hole at 12:00 make note of that, then if the holes dont provide enuff adjustment you can adjust it with another lever and then drill more holes if need be thats the way i did it

Instead of randomly drilling holes, do it the right way.
Measure the total travel of the carburetor lever at the point the cable attaches, then run the transmission lever from full forward to full rearward and find the spot on the lever that matches the carb lever travel and drill the hole there.
You should also add a spring to pull the transmission lever forward.
