ok,got a 77 or 79 440/727 from a MH

got it sitting on the engine mounts on a 85 truck frame..no cab yet

all the 727s I have seen, the tranny mount is 7" from the where the tail housing bolts to the case

this one is 5" from the case and bolts are wider apart in the housing, and the speedo plug is in front of it instead of behind it like other 727,which looks like its gonna be a PITA to hook up no matter what..

its a short shaft 727 with a bolt on yoke(detroit) u-joint 4" to out side cap to outside cap..caps are 1 1/4" round

its a longer short shaft than my sb short shaft

I will post the #s from the pan rail tonight

is this just cause its from something more than a 1 ton truck? I think it was a 10 lug beast,IIRC

not a semi but its close

will this tranny have the 4 plant gears and 5 disc clutch drum in it?

looks like I am gonna make the mount fit with some flat stock and stock 85 tranny mount to make an extetion to fit..

any better ideas?

thanks

As long as they didn't get replaced it should have the 4 gear planets and 5 disc cltch in it.

After this many years there is only way to know for sure.

From what I have seen ...

4 gear planetary sets ... ferr-sure.

But a 5 disc(are you saying hemi?) front drum ? ... I have pulled-down maybe 5 of these MH-727's(and have another 4 to do) ...and I have yet to see that.

No 5-disc drum in anything but the Hemi 727.

The '70-'71 6BBL is a Hemi trans in all but the part number, only one part is different.

I didnt know,thats what I am asking

cant figure why the tranz mount moved???

so let me guess..I got to tear the whole thing apart and change out put shaft and tail housing to fit the 85 truck the correct way???

this is the # from the pan rail

pk3898870 5788 7642

what does it tell me???

is it diff on the tail shaft with the large yoke cause its a heavy duty thing and bigger than 1 ton??

now I need to look for another tranz

thats gonna be a set back...looking at completion about 2051 now...

It tells you what you already know, it's from a '76-'78 truck, it's listed as used with the 400/440 and has the medium length extension housing and rear timing.

As you noted in your OP, this unit is just different enough to make it a hassle to install in a passenger car unless the tail is changed to passenger car.
