727 shifting too quick???

I have a 727 of unknown vintage(older I think) and it seems to me that under normal acceleration that it shifts from 1st to 2nd to 3rd really quick.  So quick that when I first started to drive my car I thought it was stuck in 2nd. I had to listen really hard to hear it change into 3rd. I had it rebuilt some 4 years ago with no mods; it has a "stock" MP torque converter and is hooked to a 3:55 rear gear. So what gives?

under normal accelleration shift should be 1/2 @ 18 2/3 @ 28. Where is your throttle pressure linkage set and do youhae teh small spring holding the rear of the slot to the carb throttle pin so that you have constant progressive throttle pressure. This is what regulates the shift points.

Normal. My 727 putters around at 1500rpm @ 30mph. Why do you think you'd need to wind it out any higher? Even my 4cyl 2.5 TBI with a 3sp torqflite fwd trans shifted at around those same speeds. So long as it downshifts when you nail the throttle it's fine. Also when I go full throttle mine winds itself out to 5000 before it shifts on its own.

My car shifted exactly like that till a week ago when I re adjusted it. Check out this link. Go to 1971 car and linkage adjustment. I think mine is close to 1/2 play at the rod now. A few tuns of the rod change the shifting of the tranny when you are close. A few trips down the road and you will have it how you want. Ummm, not to try and start something here, but I think what DaytonaTurbo was saying is "Why do you think "you would" need to wind . . . ." "You'd" is "short" for You Would.

He's right, into 3rd at about 25 mph about correct under light accelleration.

If I can hijack this for a moment...
I too am experiencing an issue with a shift point that I believe is too early. It is a rebuilt, zero miles, Torque Command (AMC) 727 with a transgo shift kit.
I have what resembles the Mopart multi-segment throttle pressure linkage.
There's is about 1/3" of slack in the carburetor link bar before the throttle will start pulling forward on the throttle rod.
I got this much slack by pulling all the way forward on the throttle rod, and opening the carburetor linkage to full throttle and tightening down the nut on the carburetor link bar.
Since the shift seems too early to me, can I just add a little more slack in the carburetor link bar so that maybe 3/4" of throttle travel will occur before pulling forward on the throttle rod?

You say the carb "pulls" the throttle rod?
Mopars push the linkage, and the back of the carb stud must remain in constant contact with the rear of the slot on the top rod.
However your linkage is configured, to get later shifts you want the transmission lever further to the rear for any given throttle opening.
