Raced my 572 finally Friday night..Seems like everything was working pretty good just a couple of small bugs to work out.But still somehow managed to pick up a win first night out.

1st time shot had bad tire shake went 4.673
2nd went 4.638
1st rd 4.639
2nd rd 4.639
3rd rd 4.641 killed 2.5 MPH
4th rd 4.645
5th rd 4.612
final rd 4.636

Not should what happened in the semi's but the other guy i was running ran out by 4 and some change. But all my incremental times were the same except E.T. so i just kinda blew it off as a fluke number and it went right back to mormal the last pass.

The valley! I am sure I saw you run. It was a pretty good turnout Friday night.

Get rid of the M/T and put a set of GoodYears or Hoosiers on it. My dragster would not go 60' with the M/T tires it shook so bad,it would bounce the tires like a T/F dragster. Mine is a hardtail dragster, and I am only trying to help save you some trouble with the tires. That is not meant to bash the M/T tires they just don't work on a dragster. Maybe we can help each other out as we get our dragsters going. There are no Mopar powered dragsters around here to share info. with.

I have one, but single dominator on E85. 572 B1 World aluminum block, 15 to 1, Jesel belt drive, rockers, 10" BTE convertor 5200 stall here, 1850 lbs. It runs 7.70@173 in 7200 feet, but I haven't had this deal at sea level yet. 1.10 60 ft, and I would be willing to trade info if it helps you dragster guys. I wonder how much the tunnel ram helps?

So he goes out and wins on his first outing, is super consistent, and you advise him to get rid of the tires that he just won on..

Yeah, that makes sense to me..

The M/T tires are one of the best things i have ever done. The car went 1.043 to 1.048 on all passes except the first where it did shake and went 1.07 60ft but that was the track and by no means the tires.

James Monroe and several guys are running consistant 4.30s and 6.80s on M/T tires week in and week out.

The tunnel ram is only worth a couple hundreths but on alky the consistancy is unreal..It takes a really big air change to change the car.

But i would love to pass on any info i can or get any info that would help from any of my mopar buddies.

Looks like way to tight of a convertor...Mine's the TCI pro -x 9 1/2" thats going to 6100 and it could stand to be a little looser but i just dont really want to shift above 7000.

I have a 8" ATI treemaster in mine. ATI set it up for my engine but they said I needed a 9". So mine may be to loose.
After the M/T I over tired the car with some 1490's(if it can't spin em it can't shake em ). I now have the GoodYear 33.5(Pro-Stock) tire with 4:29 gears in the rear-end. I have only made 1 run a few weeks ago with them and it rained. But on that run my air shifter did not shift(out of air,not the first time but it was the last time)but I had a 1.04 60' my best with the 1490's 1.06. I have an elec. shift in dragster now and hope to get some better times this weekend.
M/T tires and Co2 shifters just do not work for me.
But maybe we can all help each other on tune ups other info.

I know I don't have enough converter stall here, but the problem is when I switch tracks (there aren't any for 400 mile and I'm jealous as hell of you guys in the midwest) the stall is more like 6000 and I am afraid of being too loose with the 4.10 gear at 2200 corrected. How loose have you gone? Also, on a 1/4 mile track, what RPM are you at the top end?

How loose and do you folks race 1/4 mile at all? I would like to go a little looser, but I am unsure how much.

Couldnt really say what the 1/4 rpm is cause i havent ran any 1/4 stuff yet. But it was at 7100 at 148.4 in the 1/8th.

This is also as loose as i have been on a convertor flash other than TCI sent me the wrong one once and it went to 7200 and that was not good at all of course behind my 528.

I have another convertor that i ran behind my 528 that would flash at 4900 and the car would run 499 to 5.01 at 144. Switched to a 6100 and car ran 4.78 at 145

I have not run mine on a 1/4 mile either. ATI said I might could get by on a 1/8 mile track the converter is not locked up at the 1/8 mile. But may not work for a full 1/4 mile. I hope to change converters over the winter. Bu if it keeps breaking parts may not have the $$$$ to change this winter.
Now would be a good time for me to ask which conveter(company and size) is best for the dragster? I have been told by a fellow racer who runs and wins a lot of S/C races. That ATI is one of the best converter's made, but he thinks they don't deal with enough dragsters to set them up like they need to be. He thinks Hughes may be the best for a dragster.
Again not trying to bash anyones parts, this is my 2nd ATI and I brought it for another engine. So they are not to blame for me having the wrong size converter,it was right for the other engine.
But it would be nice to know maybe not who makes the best converter, but who has the best one for the dragsters.
If we can help each other get the right(best) parts the 1st time maybe we all could run better and save a little $$$$$$

well maybe I can't help you guys much as I have a bbc powered digger but I will say the for the money hughes has been by far the best convertor for my stuff, both doorcar and dragster. I lost very little switching to Goodyear 1022 34.5x17x16 and now prefer it as it solved my redlite wheelie problems and our tracks are so bad will take all the traction I can get.
btw, my convertors usually go 65-6700 on the tb.

My dragster is a 540 b1 tunnel ram with 1 terminator. I haven't made an 1/8 mile run this year and only 3 wide open runs as we do alot of 8.90 racing. But it went 7.68 174mph at 4000 da.
I switched to a hughes 9" at the beginning of the year and have been very happy with it but it is too tight and is at hughes now being loosened from 5900 to 6300. I also run the goodyear 2200 tire and like it very well. I can also get a pretty much unlimited supply of good used p/s takeoffs of these for anybody interested.

Thanks for the info guys. There aren't enough Mopar dragster guys around, and especially B1 guys, as Indy seems to have the Mopar aftermarket
stuff wraped up. I'm going to see about loosening up my converter, and if 6700 dead stall isn't a problem, that's the combo I'll move to. What is the top end RPM with this combo? I am still curious what that is on a 1/4 mile track.

Hi Guys, need some help. I have been running Mopars for 25 yrs,but this is my first engine with aluminum heads, block, rods and I am not sure if I have a problem or not.
What oil pressure does your engines have cold then hot?
My dragster sit a little over 4 yrs till last year. I had a battle with cancer and was down for a while. The Auto Meter sports comp gauge was also about 8-10 yrs old so it may have been wrong.
But the engine had a 100 lbs of oil pressure cold and you could raise the idle just a hair and it would go up to 120 lbs. when hot was 80 lbs and would go to 100 lbs. when you hit the throttle. I was told that was to much. Well a week are so ago the oil pressure went down to 60-80 cold and 30 hot did not rev it at 30 lbs. to see if would go up. Put a new Auto Meter Pro-Comp on yesterday still has the same oil pressure @ 170 @ idle about 28 lbs. again shut it off with out rapping the throttle to see if it would go up.
Is this normal or do I have a problem? THANKS

Seems like pretty normal pressure to me as long as it comes up with the rpm,s.

Rule of thumb is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm.

When the oil pressure was way high the relief valve could have been stuck in the pump.

And please make sure you dont have a fram filter on it.

THANKS!!!! sc301v, I have a system 1 oil filter when you clean the filter you can see some shiney aluminum and bronze particles in the oil not a whole lot,I would like to see none. The engine is still fairly new and it has had some the 4-5 times I have changed the oil. This time it had a little more bronze than before,so I may take a look at the bronze gear on the dist. just to be safe. It is nice to have some other Mopar people to run ideas by. Thanks Guys

Yea a little dust particles of some shiny particles is fairly normal.Especially on a new engine.

And to much cam walk will make make it rough on bronze distributor gear.

1995 S&W hard tail here. Car weighs 1880 with me in it. Engine is race gas 493, 280@.050 roller cam, Indy EZ-1 heads (330 CFM), 13.5 compression (ross 14cc domed pistons), single dominator on an Indy -2 mainifold. Rear end is a Ford 9" with 4.30's and a 33.5x17 tire. Transmission is a JW 1.76 geared glide, converter is an 8" JW stalling at about 5400.

1/4 mile times are in the 8.30's with trap speeds of 159 to 160 @ 7500 RPM. 60 times are 1.18. 1/8th mile is 5.30's at about 129. All times are at about 2800 to 3000 ft DA

We mopar dragster guys need to share some information. Not many of us around.

My car seems a little slow to me. Do you think I need more stall? I was expecting to be closer to 8.0 than 8.3.

first thing I would do is take the wing off. that could be .1 right there. what is your launch, shift and trap rpm?

edit, I see trap rpm of 7500, sounds like too much for that mild a combo??

MegaDart, mine has a wing also, maybe not as tall as his. Mine is about 5' or a little more from the ground to the top. My dragster has a 218" W.B. and will run in the low 140's in the 1/8 mile all of our tracks run only 1/8 mile for the weekly Bracket Races. I have only made a few runs with the big engine at this MPH. With the 451 engine it run in the mid to high 120's. It has always handled good, well after I put about 35 lbs in the nose with the big engine. But I would like to pick up a tenth by taking the wing off mine also. Do you think it would be safe to do on my dragster with the short 218"WB? THANKS

for 1/8 mile certainly, the wing really doesn't do much except slow you down till the big end, ie, 185mph+.
Losing the weight on rear tire might require some adjustment though

About the lower oil pressure, if there is nothing in the filter (tablespoon or more) I wouldn't worry about it. But I would be concerned about the bronze or copper colored metal. Keep am eye on that real often. The bronze dist. gear will cause that, but be sure it doesn't increase. My car idles at 28lbs, and goes through the traps at 72lbs at 7500. It always had that low pressure since new and I check my system 1 every 20 runs with no problems. I go 180 with no wing, and I started a new thread for us nutty dragster guys for information.

I pulled the bronze gear out,the teeth look fine. But under(bottom) the bronze gear is nice a shiney and has a good bit of wear, also where it sets in the bushing in the block the shaft also has some wearlooks like it has been sanded with sandpaper (very small ridges or grooves)if you could hold it straight. Looks like it may have had to much pressure or downforce on it,and it looks like the bushing has tighten up on the shaft. Going back to see if I can figure out what has gone wrong.

Thanks for the info. camastomcat thats makes me feel a lot better.
