I heard this story is it possible. The tree has flat black blinders so the guys can't see each others lights. Some ingenius racer puts up gloss black shield on the other side of the bulb (each lane) to see the reflection of the bulb that the flat black blinder tries to separate. So the ingenious racer is leaving off the other guys bulb (via reflection) when rules say you cant leave off the other guy's bulb????? Is this an advantage.

Since most tracks use Crosstalk the blinders are irrelevant.
However, no matter what color the blinder is you're still only seeing the backside of it from the other lane.

Yes it is possible and for a couple of grand I can outfit you with a nice "better than a mattie box digital system"! but that would be cheating!

For every sprot on earth that people compete in there are those that push the envelope of the rules and there are those that will say the other guy was cheating when they get beat, they will say there is know way that person, team or ? could beat them. If you listen to them long enough they will have all kinds of ways to explain why they belive that In some cases they are wrong and in others they are correct on the cheating, I have seen more than one NHRA competitior break the rules and get away with it Politics, freindship and money play in a lot of decision making in competive sports, ask any dog, cat, car or horse owner who competes in shows

Is there anything to a rumor I heard that some people have a "ray gun" that will jam-up the other guy's "box" ?
How could a "ray gun" do anything at all? All a box does is delay the release of the transbrake a certain amount of time from when you actually release the button. They have no optical or infrared sensors. Im not an electronics expert but im pretty sure you'd need something serious to kill the electrical in the car, and that would kill everything in a certain range, probably including your own car...

A delay "box" is just that. It delays the release of the transbrake. Transbrakes aren't considered an electronic item, only the box is.
A throttle stop is a pneumatic device actuating the throttle. They dont "need" a box to work, they could simply use a time based MSD switch. I guess im just ignorant as to how an infrared "gun" could affect either.

how did this racer get the opportunity to go up and mess around with the tracks tree by putting up a gloss black shield?
Probably worked there, or was a track favorite. Track would have to be in on it, or not very bright not to notice the added panels.

i have seen a suspicious act at a track where this 1 person won alot. his wife would stand on the wall and point the camcorder directly at the tree. not at the car or tires as is normal. at the tree. is this some light sensor, leave on remote, or trying to stir the pot?
Using a cheap remote start box, a car could be wired to leave remotely from the starting line, stands, etc. Toss in an optical sensor, light trigger, or a similar piece and it's entirely possible to make a unit that when pointed at the tree, would see the top bulb and remotely activate the delay box.
