I have a '48 New Yorker straight 8 flathead and need to know what weight of oil I can use. The shop manual calls for 30W, but can i use anything else? It has high miles from what I know... Any thoughts?

In summer you can go up to 40w without any problem.

Id say 10w30 or if worried 20w50 would even work.Just have to be careful because if its sludged from non detergent oil it will break it loose. Those rab non det.Probally already has had det oil in it though as non is kind of hard to find.Rocky
