I am finally getting around to looking into rebuilding a hydrolocked 5.7 hemi I picked up on the cheap. The hydrolock caused the #8 rod to snap and a few chunks appear to have exited through the piston. I am hoping to just do a basic rebuild adding a stock piston and rod and having everything rebalanced by the machine shop.

Any thing I should look for on the other 7 pistons/rods or crank before I start to acquire stock replacement parts?

If pieces got into the combustion side of the piston, then debris got into the intake. I'd be cleaning the he@@ out of that intake, with brake cleaner and compressed air, then repeat. Once in the intake, it will travel to other cylinders also.

i have take out rods and pistons from stoker builds also. let me know if you need/want em...

like said..that intake manifold will hold on to things. i would look at the heads and the piston tops. see if there is obvious damage that can be seen. pitting or small strokes from parts swapping cyl is not uncommon for them when they go.

most just swap out the intake for new ones..

the 5.7 piston is weakest around the top ring land. real thin and they have a tendency of breaking off.

I have already decided to get rid of the stock barrel intake and carb the motor. I am planning to tear down the short block and check all the bearing surfaces and have the block hot tanked and cleaned. I was also worried about any damage the hydrolocking may have done to the balance of the crank?

I will pm you gremlin steve for info on the stock parts you have as I have some other parts I would like to pick up used to save some cash on.

shouldn't affect the balance of the crank, other than the new parts you buy to replace the old ones.

I suppose it could have cracked the crank, but it sounds like the rod gave up the ghost before any other parts did.

hmm....what's the front end of the crank snout look like? wonder if you could use one to make a low budget LA 318/349 stroker....
