I know the standard 66-70 rears will work in the rear of a fastback A-body, but what about an earlier? Is it correct that anywhere from 62 to 70 are correct?

If I'm reading that correctly the text and the chart contridict one another, for a 70 b-body vs a 66 anyway

65 to 67 would seem to be the best B body pic for an A body.

On an open wheel well car it's a straight bolt in.

Tire clearance is a little snug on a swept well(like a dart,) but still can be made to work with the right wheel.

The 65 to 67 is the one to get. I think you can run the 5.72 Mustang backspace rims with those and maybe not even run a spacer. I believe the spring pads are a litlle further out, but I have heard of people just pushing them out a little to fit.

Problem is... 65 to 67 8 3/4 rears go for good money too. The 62-64 B-body guys want those to upgrage their cars from tapered axles.

But with a 65-67 you won't have the additional cost of LBP axles, backing plates, drums, lug studs... to do a A-body rear to LBP conversion.

Why not the A body rear end with Moser/Dutchman/Strange/whatever brand axles with the large bolt pattern??

I run a 66 B body rear end in my Duster. I moved the spring perches 1" on each side. I run 8" Welds with a 5 1/2" backspace. They fit just right. I now run 29.5X9X15 ET slicks which require a 7/16" spacer since the cross section is a bit over 11".

$50-100 rear end vs $350 for bearings and axles along with buying a set of big bolt pattern brakes and a $300 housing.

Brian-

I put a B body rear ('69 Charger) in my '71 Demon. I didn't change a thing. Springs are just pushed out a touch to get them to sit on the perches. I have 27 X 10.5 slicks on 10" wheels with 5.5 backspacing. No problems...

I would like to see a "GOOD" 50$-100$ 8 3/4 any thing

I had every thing from moser for 550$ and a 40$ chunk-3.55sg for an a-body

3 day turn around, fit perfect, been 9 yrs and just swaped out the green bearings

was in my 68 Dart and now in the 85 truck

do it right,do it once,it is an investment,IMO

Did the same thing 20 years in a 71 Valiant, I used rims from an AMC 4 wheel drive Eagle, I forget what tire size but they were big!

Should this mean I should keep an eye out at the show for one for your car?

I plan on being there early, so I'll bring the measuring stick and see if I can poke one out from behind the bushes.

here's some pictures of a '68 B-body axle in a '70 Duster. I used the MP offset shackle kit as well. 15x7 4.125 backspacing and 225 60R15's for now.
