We are needing to replace the engine block in the 63 Dodge. Which would you recommend Indy, World Block or any other?
Should we go with the raised cam?
we have decided on Aluminum to save some weight unless thats not a good idea?
I priced one from Indy prepped and ready to go for $6500.

Keith Black, if you plan on spending that much $$$. You will be very happy with a block from them

Definitely go aluminum. I have a KB and am VERY happy with it. If you may decide to go w/ more than a 4.5" stroke later on, then get the raised cam block now.

If you do decide to go with an INDY block, do NOT buy it from them direct. Get it from someone like Bob George Racing who deals with them on a regular basis. That way you don't have to deal with the A-holes at Indy. CHIP

I really dont know which block is the best for you,but I would send some PM's to the builders on this site to get the opinions from them and a price. How many times have you read on here to re check everything when you get it.You really shouldnt have to but its not a perfect world.

OK got a hold of Ken Black @ Keith Black @4995 for their block ready to go.
The problem is 12 weeks out
He's going to call me back if he can do something faster.
We are motivated to get the 63 back together soon..

Ha!
Not a chance I could get the GTX away from Annie. Especially after last weekend, her winning the Pro class @ Madras.

I have never heard of or experienced a failure of a properly
prepared Indy block.I own three. KB may be worth the extra if your building in the 2,000Hp range

Fred put your glasses on. I didnt write Failure.I said the 1500 dollar cheaper KB block was a good savings. Iam cheap I would wait Indy 6500 - KB 4995. I hope BG steals your Duster pillow, so you cant drive.

A KB block for 1500 cheaper!!! Wait the time and make your racing life and wallet happier The KB block will always be good for upgrades in the future. Go with the raised cam right away too. IMO

We would like to wait for the KB block but 12 plus weeks!
Ray Barton has the NEW cast iron world block ready to ship for 2600 just needs the pistons fit.

Now I need to find out for sure if the old 500 block is totally no good or could the thing be filled sleeved and saved?
I've been told it is simply junk now.

Also talked to KB and was told 12 weeks out.

World has aluminum wedge blocks available direct for $4000 bare and $4500 finished

I am building a 572 as well and ordered a world block today.

12 weeks is actually not that bad. I waited 6 months for mine.

Yes and we would like to get the car back together for the Mopar race in Woodburn so unless someone has any other ideas Ray Barton will be getting a call from me in the AM..
Ray said it comes complete with cam bearings plugs and the distributor bushing.
now what else should I get from Barton's?
gaskets
piston rings
main and rod bearings mains for sure I'd guess due to the new block Rods?

that's another thing altogether. promise vs. actual delivery dates

Mine was done and shipped when promised. FWIW, all blocks need to be checked. Mine had a few things that were not exactly correct. What I will say about KB is they will stand behind their work. They made it right when the time came to send it back.

2 things that were not exactly in spec was the deck height and the line bore. They gave me a credit for the deck height being off to make up for the new head gaskets I had to buy. When I messed something else up and had to send it back to them for some minor repair they fixed the deck height issues at no cost when it was there.
