In the area of the upper corners above the trunk there is a re occurring crack thru the paint. I believe several years ago someone posted a cure for this problem, but i cannot find it . Anyone got any solutions to this problem ?

You'll hear ten different ideas.. Good Luck figuring out what works... I've done all kinds of fillers, polyester, fiberglass, all metal... In the end tig welded it solid, cut a piece of sheetmetal to fit in the trought, tig welded it in solid, then filled the majority of the remaining area with lead... Throughly tinned, throughtly neutralized everything.. Sealed the lead then did final finishing with Polyester finishing putty... Did two Challengers this way, three of the four seams are perfect, one has a small crack showing, I suspect I missed some contaimination under the lead..

Before you re=do any work,....some QUALITY frame connectors, and other body mods go along way in stabilizing the shell, before doing body work

I did a challenger over two years ago. It is still fine. I always weld that seam in solid. If you don't it will crack.

The way the factory did it, it will always crack. It is a weak point that flexes. I have always seen convertibles, even our 71 Buick GS convert, cracked in the same location.

Yep! Known as the "factory installed crack". Even with frame connectors mine has them. Maybe the 440-6 is the culprit!

Even though my bodyman "fixed it", mine cracked about six months later (about the time I started driving it) Yep it's kind of like concrete work, the only guarantee you get is that it WILL crack.

on hard tops the place is very visable and a groove. on vets it is filled in.
It is where the quater panel meets the section forward of the trunk.

My dads hemi we used seem sealer then using your finger spread thinner over it and pull all the excess out. They it looks just like the factory and it held on that car for 8 years...And it had 600 ponies that did get used

I guess I didn't realize that the convert had that area "filled" in. What was the reason for doing it that way. Did it have to do with the convert boot when the top was down?

Who knows that's just the way a vert is made and that is the way they crack.
