With any luck I should have my little 341 motor together and it just got me curious to see if any other 318 based motors are out there. 3.91" bore "seems" small but it doesn't seem to be an issue with the LS1 chavy which at 346" is almost dimensionally identical to this motor that (I must admit) seems 'tiny' after building so many 500+ inch motors over the years. I know smallblock questions on 'Race only' sink off the front page pretty quickly, but let's see if anybody is out there. 318's seem to be pretty popular with the A body crowd, I suppose it's (naturally) because it's getting tough to find any 340 or 360 35+ years on that hasn't been punched to the max. 3.91 seems small but it's 97.7% of a 4" bore and with the much better heads we have today the big bore isn't as critical to good VE and cylinder filling as it was back in the old days.

Over on A bodys only there was someone that was using a Mopar 4 inch 318/340 main crank, 340 standard bore (4.04) pistons, aka dirt cheap, and a stock rod. I want an X block but haven't found any that are close or affordable. The combo above is something I'm going to look hard at in the future.

There is a guy on here I think his is poked and stroked to 438ish and runs mid elevens with factory iron heads, he has lots more in it but I think no cage. I think he is StrokerAspen.
He has I think, a 68 block bored to 4.030 and a 4.25 or so crank.

Mines got a 318. All stock bottom end. Block, rods, crank, oil pan. Its the original engine (bottom part). 360 heads from a junk yard car. Lapped the valves & bolted em on. MP oil pump & mild cam. Stock converter. Trannys seen some attention cause it died & I had my tranny guy build it right. I only turn it to 4500 cause of its 40 year old internals. Runs 8.90 to 9.00 in the 1/8 th. One of these days I'll drop a 440 or something in it. To darn busy working on other cars to mess with it. Besides it runs good & wins rounds.

I'll through mine out there, 2850 with me in it. 318 30 over, 360 heads, 8.2 cr with a 450 hydr. cam and tight convert.. Best 11.70@116.40. Been running it for 7 years now with no problems.

Got the short block together, looking good. I didn't like the way KB did the symmetrical intake Eyebrows on the slugs...the pocket left for a very thin relief on either side of the piston that would have surely broken a small piece of the slug in no time...I did a preemtive strike by whittling them down with the trusty dremel, small detail but something to be aware of with the standard bore size KB167's, the .030 overs would probably be thick enough. What I've got is basically a 600+ hp bottom end that I'll be pushing to ~460 or so....but I figure I could always spray it
