What would be the differences running E-85 versus meth with a Toilet? Engine is a 498, Stage VI, roller cam in a FED with a PG.

I plan to try it next month. I have a door car (3200 lbs) with a toilet and 511 CID, solid flat tappet cam, 13.5 CR; running methanol so far this year.

I expect it to be between gasoline and methanol. For a car like mine, that would be almost 0.3 seconds in the hot weather (gas vs methanol), so the E-85 might be 0.1 slower than the methanol. Less difference in colder, more dense air.

It should cut fuel cost in half when you include alky to warm up the engine at the beginning of the day. For me, alky needed around 1.0+ gallons warm up, and 1.5 gallons per run. So on a typical 5 run day:

Alky: 1.0 warm up + 5 x 1.5 = 8.5 gallons
----: 8.5 gallons x $2.70/gallon = $22.95

E-85: 0.5 warm up + 5 x 1.0 = 5.5 gallons
----: 5.5 gallons x $2.09/gallon = $11.50

A/F ratio is different between them. E85 seems to be around 10:1 and Methanol around 7:1 or double what the ratio is for gas.

This is an estimate from the stoichiometric ratios, it looks like E-85 needs to flow about 66% of a methanol system. That will require changing nozzle jets and the bypass pill for best results.

Stoichiometric ratio / best power (.8 x):
Gasoline 14.7 / 11.8
Methanol 6.4 / 5.12
Ethanol 9.0 / 7.20
E-85 9.76 / 7.81

That is ballparking best power at 0.8 time Stoich, but that could vary some from one combo to another.

I've been messing with E 85 in my Car and my uncles Car. Both our Cars have Stacks but we are using Rons Nozzles . His car ran 6:03 on a 600 Ft track (add .3 to .4 for 1/8 mile)on Methanol and the next week we came back on E85 it ran 6.06.We have been running on TT nights and he has run a bunch of 6.01s enough that he is ready to go back racing. I know it uses alot less Fuel but I have not actually checked what he uses on a pass. My Car is kind of odd in I have 2 fuel systems, electronic and mechanical. I had planed running the Electric on pump gas and ride around on that then do the burnout and the run on the Mechanical/ methanol but E85 is better all around and Cheaper than 93.I have not made a full pass yet but did make a pass where it did not Shift to high and I lifted at 3/4 track. It ran a 6.12 at 82 used 1/4 of a gallon. I only have a gallon tank and I did the burnout or the electronic and switched it before I Staged so that is the amount of feel used to Stage and run. I also made a complete run on the Mechanical injection and it used 1/2 a gal this was Crank in the pits Drive to Staging burnout run and return to the pits. Was not a good run not exactly Sure why but ran a 6.05 at 101.Had been having Problems with water in oil and found a cracked Cyl.Hopefully have it back together in a couple of weeks.I like to tinker with my car alot I'll burn up 2or3 Gallons during the week where with methanol I'd go through almost 10 gals and plus milk the oil up.Also I have a wide band 02 and on the 6.12 pass I had 2 lean spikes in the 17 to 1 range and it did not hurt any thing looks like alot of room for Error. I've got to get mine back together and make some full runs then I'm going to try E 100 a Station is selling it close to me at the Some price as E85 and that should cure any worry over the €85 mix Changing.

Hey Dale, what A/F ratio have you run with E-85 so far? (or Lambda value).

How much of a nozzle/pill change are you anticipating? just got my terminators fired today & am interested in the e85 as well.

Hey Jim looking forward to seeing what you do on the Corn.As for AF ratio here is a graph of the 6.12 run as you see AF is all over the place but that run felt real good and I think the reason it did not shift to high was because it RPMed so fast the Shifter did not have time to reset. The red line in the middle is AF also I m set For Gas so actual Ratio is not right I Just didn't see any reason to Change .All my Stuff is mixed and Ebayed Junk so my pump came with the Hi11born Stacks and is too big I'm using Rons barrel Valve and Nozzles. I had a Rons set up which I tore up the pump and it had 30 Nozzles and a 95 pill. this is what we ran in my uncles car on methonol and we went down to 16 nozzles for E85. He is running a 105 pill. This is working great for him I am running the same Nozzles and a 120 pill. I need to make more runs but I think I will Need to go up on nozzle size because I am running 120 psi which is high.
