I had that air gap intake on a stock stroke 318 enginemasters build that I bought that pumped out 477 horsepower. Under 10.5 compression, pump gas, flat tappet cam, etc, etc.
Ran mid 11’s in a 3400 pound car with a smaller camshaft than was used in the competition.
Those intakes may well make less power, but they make more than enough for 95% of the guys who are going to run a dual plane to begin with. That little motor I had more than proved it.

Makes me wonder why the two extremely sharp guys who built this motor and took it to the competition left 30 horsepower on the table. Hmmm

1972 was the first year Mopar switch to cast steel cranks in the 318 and 340 motors, they were not forged steel

In my experience the off shore heads don't make the power. Even if you get bare heads and do a good valve job, porting and quality parts they are down 30-40 hp on an engine dyno. They must cut corners with the casting cores in the ports and chambers. They just don't fill the cylinder the same.

I would never buy a set of their heads but obviously some people do. I will tell you that you should never, ever buy a SpeedMaster 8 stack setup. I had a customer buy that setup and then he asked me to tune it. I told him it couldn't be tuned.

Saving money was the reason I bought them. buying and rebuilding core heads $1500. Buying Edelbrock heads and having to go through them because of 'Edelbrock issues' $2500. So for less money, I got heads that I could have the shop look at and not worry about. If the motor only makes 300'ish hp with those head I'm fine with that for a street motor. Now I got to find cheap roller rockers and pushrods for it.

Why would you compare a stock intake vs one they massaged for an engine masters competition? That's a bit silly...

I agree that the intakes for 90% out there are fine, but if I can find a used version of the real thing which is actually better as cast, then why not? Unfortunately, used small block mopar cylinder heads aren't easy or cost effective to find used where I am, or I would have sprung for a used set of edelbrocks or better.

SpeedMaster seems awfully expensive for what it is. They're marking it way up.

Why let greedy corporations like Speedmaster sit in their ivory tower making money when it's much cheaper to deal directly with the source in Zhejiang, China and buy from Ningbo Beyond Auto Parts Co., Ltd???

Doesn't matter. Looks like Speedmaster has been scrubbed from Summit and Jegs. Probably afraid of the legal ramifications of selling the crap. I guess guys will have to go to Amazon, eBay and other quality retailers for their products moving forward.

I get mine shipped right from Speedmaster79. Gonna finish a set this weekend and start porting another set by Monday. 2.055 valve so they will flow 308-315cfm when finished.

Absolutely not and I’ve said so on several posts on several forums. If this went down exactly as posted someone should be on a slow rowboat to China.

That's some funny stuff coming from one of the biggest of a company that sent an ebrock head to china ... along with a 906 ... and said ... make this look like that on the outside ...

pittsburghracer what changed your views on these heads? You used to be 100 percent against them and really the castings have been the same for a long long time. There early cnc heads cut the guides way down but they stopped doing that.

Have you started to race weekly as on here you seemed to race a few times a year unless your getting out more which would be great or is weekly like two weeks in a row at times?

Back when pro comp owned the company I shied away from them. A forabodiesonly member shared his results then for the last three years over bought multiple set during the 40% off sale. I started porting heads after I stopped enjoying it years ago only doing my own. I doubled my porting prices up to 850.00 and I’m enjoying it again probably porting 15-20 sets of Smallblock Mopar Speedmaster heads. The only issue I’ve found so for was one intake guide was .003 over sized. These heads will easily support 600 plus horsepower. Their cnc program with only get you in the 280-285cfm area.

Ohh and I never really post about racing on this site anymore but attended five big money races last year and ran 15 races at those events alone. So yes I race more than most.
