Unfortunately, yes, they also suffer from a very, very common lifter problem. And they are known to eat cams too. Lifters in the 6 are referred to as tappets if I'm not mistaken. Many can be replaced without removing the timing chain/cam/gears.....
Just a heads up- the lifters/tappets are the roller rockers......

Ouch....
Thank you for the information even though it isn't what I want to hear. Better the truth.
The warranty extension head. Is it a different head or just a reman to get another 150k out of the engine?
Hmm, the Jeep is 11 years old and has how many miles? What was the original warranty period and mileage? At what point do you think Chrysler should not have to deal with it anymore?

It's not about Chrysler dealing with it. Its got 168k on it and not Chrysler's problem. I'm trying to figure out do I need to replace the head with an updated model like BMW did with their 3.0 heads, or just do a valve job on the existing head(s). Hence the reason I asked if the warranty replacement head was the same or different than the original one. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

In their literature it states "a more robust" head

I was just answering this question "Does this engine have any known problems with lifters like the Hemi's or other unique issues that could cause the miss? Could it be the oil cooler" ?

Awesome Larry Thanks. Assuming that since the warranty extension was only to 2013 I assume the 2014 and later have the more "Robust" Head. Will a 2014 and later head work on the 2011-2013 engines? Should I source a pair of 2014 & later heads if I need to replace the heads? Still have fingers crossed when I get to see it in person that it is something simple like a coil pack. However, I am planning for the worst to see if it is worth the cost of the repair. You have been awesome help. Ironically Rockauto is sold out of the left head but has 2 different suppliers for the right. I guess people don't believe in doing both heads these days?

You would think the post '13's were better but unfortunately a bunch of our post '13 fleet ones developed a tick anyway. Too bad because it's a silky smooth and powerful six. Silly to just do the one head, I agree. A friend with a Jeep had the left side ticking and the dealership replaced both at no cost! I was surprised.
