I think the "dent" is indicative of a mid year production 1971 and up inner fender. Tav, is your car a 70 or a 71? One of my M46 cars is an A/C car, I can take some pics of the passenger fender, it is untouched original, other than most of the A/C stuff has been removed! There is no water valve or any hoses in the area in question. Hmm, I also have a shell from an early production 71 Challenger with 70 original inner fender still in place. I can take pics of that one, it is easier to get to. Tav, do you know what an original 70 only E Body water valve looks like? I have been looking for one for years, and I probably wouldn't know what it looked like if I saw it unless it was NOS in the box! Looking forward to meeting you at Carlisle Colin!

Hi Dwight, Thanks for helping!! From what I've gathered the valves pretty much all look the same on 70-74 E bodies. The part # changed several times through the years, but I've never heard of anyone finding any differences between the valves except for the brackets and also the screws that hold the valve to the bracket.
This car I'm doing now isn't going to be a date coded/matching part #s/replated black phosphate bolt type resto. For it, I picked up this NOS valve off Ebay. (pic below) It appears to be the right part for the job. It came with 2 brackets (some come with 3), neither of them are the correct E body bracket, so I ordered an E body bracket from Bill Rolik.
Here are some links to previous threads on this same topic. Unfortunately none of them contain measurements for me. The top link has a pic of Dave Waldens OE Gold 1970 water valve. (he's the only car to score 100% on air conditioning)

Check out the pic below. The red arrows point to dents. Just a little ding up top, and a bit bigger at the bottom. The blue arrow is Not a dented area. It appears a lighter color because I wiped the dust off that sheetmetal dimple before taking the pic. (car is dusty, has been sitting) I believe that dimple is used on California cars for holding the emissions line from the valve cover breather to the rear of the car. I do know what you're talking about though. This is not the mid 71 & up inner fender with the "dent" there for the same purpose.
This car is an early build 1970 Challenger, SPD August 26th 1969.
Any pics/measurements you could provide would be great Dwight! Thanks for helping!!
